Lucy's Journal

I can't find Lucy's journal but she's been so funny lately and I want to remember so I'm writing here until I can find her journal again.

You are a crack up! The other day, Grandma and Sister Olsen came over here for a few minutes and you sat on Grandma's lap and just jabbered away beeping everybody's noses. Finally, when she was about to leave, you gave "grandma huggie" (your namesake) a big tight hug. Your hugs are the sweetest thing. You squeeze tight and say, "ohhhhh" with your head learning against my shoulder. And then you lean in to squeeze my nose and say "beeeeeep." And sometimes I get a kiss--you usually just stick out your cheek for me. But on occasion, you kiss back. At the ward Christmas party, Sister Fotheringham (a very sweet grandma in our ward) was admiring your cuteness and she was going to give you a little kiss on your cheek but you went for it and kissed her right on the lips. She said it was the best kiss she'd had all day!

You can't seem to hold still. Ever. You climb on everything and no matter how many times you've fallen down, you just keep getting back up. You also have developed a fascination with the electrical outlet covers. You think it's hilarious when you climb up onto the top bunk from the changing table and go to the far side where I can't quite reach you. When you climb, you just put your belly over the top and dive for it. It's a lot of work to keep you safe!

One of your favorite things to do is color. You get mad if anybody tries to take your coloring utensils away. Another favorite is playing "where's the baby" You play this with Grandma when she tends you at home on Sundays during sacrament meeting (Try not to be too jealous people. Just be happy for me. I'll be sure to remember this trick when I'm the grandma too. Turns out the speakers actually say stuff during sacrament meeting. Who knew?) You hide your baby Minny in the play kitchen fridge then place your hand over your mouth for amplification and call out, "baby? baby? baaaaaaby?" Then you find her and give her a hug. This also works with bottles.

Your giggle charms my socks off.

Most of the day you're on the phone or sometimes the remote. "HeWHOA?" (hello?) "hi yeah mamadada baba bye."

When other people laugh, you laugh too. This is especially cute during YW when your laugh starts a little late and is the last one everyone hears. Last week in YW you sang the opening hymn too! You insisted the book be open to the page of your choosing and then held it on my lap and sang. You like books if you get to be the boss and turn the pages. Babies are your favorite thing to point to. You've developed a preference for pink. I know because when I tried to put your bread on a blue plate but you saw the pink one underneath it in the cupboard, you gave me an earful and pointed until I switched plates.

You've really enjoyed the Christmas lights and say, "ooooooo" when we drive at night. You also love the polar bear blow up. We brought it inside when we first got it out and you looked at that guy and giggled and then just gave him a big hug.

You also interacted with the Halloween decorations. Like when we went to the party at Rob and Amy's and you talked to their scarecrow and then when I held you next to the creepy butler, you just pinched his nose and said, "beeeep." No fear!

Unfortunately, your Giardia isn't quite gone yet. You're on your last day of medicine and I'm really hoping this one works. I'm sorry it took so long to figure out what the problem was. I'm expecting that this means you're not really allergic to milk though, so that's good.

You love to go on walks in the double stroller with Logan when we pick up Ry and Ty from preschool. Sometimes the big kids hold your hands and you just giggle about that. You love it when your cousins come over. When Logan walks in the door, you squeal with delight and just give him one of your great big hugs. At Halloween, he was dressed as a lion and you looked at him and just laughed hard. Then you wanted to hug him and follow him around everywhere but he seemed to feel a little shy. It's cute to hear him call you "Lou Lou."

Unfortunately, one of Ryann's favorite things to say is, "uh oh! Looks like a little bedroom time. This is so sad." Generally you two get along pretty well, but sometimes she likes to tattle.

I love you Lou Lou. It's been fun watching you learn and grow!

Merry Christmas!

(Actually, I've been doing a little internet-based research on The History of My 2010 and found that I called “Times” way back in August and still haven't called “time-in” so technically I'm not even obligated to spread Christmas cheer! Okay, fine....Time-in, but no touch backs.)

I thought that in addition to singing loud for all to hear, the best way I could spread Christmas cheer is to give you a synopsis of my year. (No rhyme intended.)

January 2010: Comet, the fish, died. We haven't decided yet whether Santa will replace him this Christmas. Ryann didn't seem to feel the loss, but the play-group kids did look down the toilet after I confessed (under pressure) that I'd flushed his dead carcass. Dead. Carcass.

Ryann discovered her primary teacher is actually from planet Clearth. She didn't share her research, just the conclusion.

February 2010: We got fancy. Ryann attended a Fancy Nancy party at the library and, for the entire month, we ate with pinkies up and sometimes even toothpicks. We also started reading Junie B. Jones (including “...is a Barber Shop Guy.” for those of you who like foreshadowing.)

March 2010: We legally changed our name to 0'Marsh and ate corned beef and cabbage.

April 2010: Randy turned 27! Plus we got a tax refunded new computer, a bike for Randy, and some gardening supplies. Gardening supplies? Yes! I grew my very first plants FROM SEED! (With the exception of the McDonald's happy meal greenhouse grass grower that I got in 2nd grade.) So for only $100, I had enough impatiens to fill one pot, plus 10 tomato and 5 pepper plants! Can you even believe the deals you get online?

May 2010: Randy was home one evening and we had a conversation.

June 2010: Randy went on a bike ride to Lake Powell with the scouts. They rode 300 miles in 4 days. He liked it so much, he signed up for the ULCER. Also important to note is that he wore cushy tushy spandex in public. (I was joking when I invented those, but apparently someone else wasn't.)

July 2010: I went to girls camp and discovered I still have an inner teenager. Also, “me and my friends totally got in trouble” for being too-loud as stick-figure aliens one of the nights. I don't think the young women approved of their leaders' shenanigans so I have now bottled my inner teenager back up again. So sorry. Also in July, Lucy had her first birthday! Randy went on another week-long scout camp.

August 2010: Was Youth Conference in July or August? Either way, that was fun. Randy and I have never been away without our kids for so long. Too bad we had the theme of "Lehi wandering in the wilderness" instead of "California beach swim party." After that, we roughed it at Alexander Lake with the Fugal family too. The reason we do that trip is so that we can be grateful for hot running water and toilets. We are.

And now, the moment I foreshadowed! (Dramatic voice) It was a bright shiny afternoon at nap time. Ryann had tied a ribbon to the leg of the piano (Randy thinks scout knots are cool but I wasn't too captive an audience so he taught them to Ryann.) I told her I'd get it off later, it was time for a nap. I held her for a while on the couch and fell asleep but Ryann didn't. She slid the barstool over to reach the scissors on top of the fridge then snipped the ribbon into shreds, but she didn't stop there. I woke up to the sound of my hair falling to the floor. THUD. And that's why I earned the nickname of Alfalfa

September 2010: My alfalfa hair stood down so we tried taking our own family photo. As you can see, we're all a little obsessed with Lucy's belly button.

October 2010: I ran a 21k and made myself a t-shirt. We dressed up for Halloween. It was supposed to coordinate. Ryann had a perfect red Annie dress, Lucy was Sandy, the dog. Randy had a bald cap for Daddy Warbucks and I look like an orphan. In real life though, Randy was Aang, the Avataar, (cartoon version) Ryann was Tinkerbell, Lucy was a dog, and I look like an orphan. For photos, see my blog.

November 2010: Ryann had a gingerbread birthday party.

December 2010: I wrote a Christmas letter.

hehe, you didn't actually click on that last link did you?

Merry Christmas everyone! We love you!
