We had a wonderful Holiday season as I posted earlier we were able to take a great trip to New York. It all started with a little decorating. Lucas loved decorating the tree, and Penny loved taking the ornaments off the tree so we had to place most a little out of reach. It is so much fun to have kids at Christmas time. It really was magical, and I was so sad to see it end.
We were able to go the Ward (church) Christmas Party and Lucas had a great time. There was yummy food, a great Christmas story for the kiddos, and most importantly lots of playing for Lucas.
Christmas eve we were able to get together with some friends, the Reddings. We had breakfast for dinner which was amazing and I think we may adopt as a tradition. The kids acted out the manger scene, and Penny was baby Jesus although she kept crawling out of the bed and wanted to be held by Mary (Lisa). Then we had a white elephant gift exchange while "Twas the Night Before Christmas" was read. We ended up with a yodeling pickle which is still a hit with the kids. It was a wonderful evening with friends.
The next morning the kids slept in so we only had a little bit of time to look at our stockings and the gifts Santa brought. Lucas was so excited and loved his toys and candy. When we saw Santa at the mall Lucas told him that he wanted a lot of candy and a hot wheels track, and that is exactly what he got. As we got ready for church Lucas seemed a little sad and on the way to church he said "I must have been a bad boy since Santa didn't bring me toys". I asked him what he was missing and he could not answer that question. I told him that he was a good boy and we still had presents to open at home.
Church was really great and I loved having Christmas on Sunday it helped keep the focus on Christ. After church Penny napped and Lucas opened his presents. He picked his first present and got so sad because it was clothes. We explained that people can give you whatever they want and it would not all be toys. The next present I made sure was his super hero toy. After he opened that he was so much happier. I realized he LOVES super heroes and he will always need one from Santa even if he does not ask. Once Penny woke up we helped her open presents, and she had a lot of fun. Sadly, the gifts we got her were a little too old for her, but she loved the big box some of the presents came in. For lunch we had prime rib roast, favorite potatoes, brussel sprouts, and for dessert our neighbors that own the bakery next to us brought over a ton of treats. That evening our friends, the Edwards, came over and played some games.
It was one of the best days I have had in while, and I loved spending the day with my little family. I really loved this season and the time I had to reflect on how blessed I am. I have such a wonderful, loving husband that I do not deserve, and beautiful, fun, smart children that I cannot believe I have been entrusted to care for.
