Jack Handey

This blog entry is dedicated to Megan. She was the one who introduced me to Jack Handey. If I'd had the story about the golden baby, I would've posted it too.:)

"He was a cowboy mister, and he loved the land. He loved it so much he made a woman out of dirt and married her. But when he kissed her, she disintegrated. Later, at the funeral, when the preacher said, 'Dust to dust,' some people laughed, and the cowboy shot them. At his hanging, he told the others, 'I'll be waiting for you in heaven with a gun."

Drivin' in My Car

Wednesday morning, as I was driving down the big hill that leads to my work, a car coming up the hill flashed his lights at me. First thought: Are my headlights off? Then I realized that it was 9 a.m., so that shouldn't have mattered. Second thought: Is he a gang member? No. I'm not in Downey. I don't have to worry about being part of someone's gang initiation. Third thought: Am I in danger? Is there someone hanging onto my car, ready to jump in and kill me? And then I saw the cop car hidden off to the left. I slowed down from 60 to 50 mph and thanked that very nice man who flashed his lights at me. What a nice community I live in.:)

Who develops film nowadays anyway?

Me, that's who! (Do any of you guys? Just wondering. This is another poll. Please vote.)

Okay, so I haven't developed a roll of film in over a year, but yesterday I still had film in my camera and decided to use it up. Karina's b-day is Monday (I'm counting on Karina not reading this) and when she was here last year for her b-day we went snow shoeing.
I decided I would hurry and use up the rest of the film on dumb pictures . . . like of Izzy . . . and then run it down to Walgreens to burn it into a CD. That way I could do something with the pictures of Karina and I in time for her birthday.

So I just got home from a church meeting and remembered I had the unopened photo envelope on my desk! I popped the CD in my laptop like 2 seconds ago and started scanning through the photos. Char's bachelorette party, Izzy, the snow, snowshoeing with Mandy, Izzy, more of Char, and that was it! And I realize, Karina must've been on a different roll! Sure enough. I just found it in my camera case. Guess I'll be going to Walgreens again tomorrow morning.:) Dang-it!

P.S.: Does anyone know how to make the pictures above fit together nicely? Megan, how do you make your blog pictures always look so orderly in little rows? That's what I want to know!:)

Firsts

1. My car got stuck in the snow today and I had to be pushed out . . . not once but TWICE! It was a somewhat thrilling experience, except for the second time when it was 7 p.m. at night and no one was paying attention to me. I finally had to open my door and stand up inside my car, hanging on to the frame of my car (the snow was up to the bottom of the door!), and yell for someone to push me out.

2. I ate an Arby's chocolate chip cookie. Did you know Arby's sold cookies? I didn't. I think the last time I ate at Arby's was back in 1997 with the Rushforth's.:) I remember Gary liking Arby's.

3. I did yoga!!! Okay. Not a first, but a first for a very long time. I am starting fresh and trying to get an exercise routine going.

4. To take a break from editing I went out in my car and did a crossword puzzle. I don't recall putting the crossword puzzle book in my car, but I must have been thinking of the needs of my passengers. The topic was clouds. Nimbus. Alto-Stratus. Pea soup. Someone please tell me what pea soup has to do with the weather? Does that mean mucky?

5. This morning Izzy stole my sock. She has a sock fetish. Usually she'll drop it when I catch her with it in her mouth, but this time she took off running. So of course I had to chase her. She's good. I ran around our living room and even dove to grab her a few times and missed every time. It was pathetic, but she loved it. Once I caught her she was all ready to play again and I was out of breath! Hah. Thus the need for an exercise program.

I love Sundays!

I just may make my 11 o'clock bedtime!! Before going to bed I wanted to share what I'm grateful for today.

PEACE. truth. clarity. a blanket of assurance that everything will be okay. knowing that things aren't as you thought. a deep breath and a change of heart are the result of peace.

FAMILY. tonight my grandma said that the thing she loves most about being a grandma is that now she has more time to pray for all of us. she is an amazing woman. it feels good to be loved. i belong to the greatest family and learn so much from their wisdom and selflessness. tonight: gail knows i'm the trendsetter and liked my socks-and-skirt combo, emma was a drooly pool, kevin loves to charlar in spanish because no one else can understand and spanish is cool, and aunt cynthia and i tried out new lipsticks like coco rum and champagne. mom kept eating carmels, trying to get one that didn't have nuts. good plan, mom.:)

MOTION. water flowing. snow falling. bodies bending to the beat. heads bobbing to the rhythm. hearts beating. silence pulsing. eyes closing . . . and not opening. dreams swirling in the meantime.

WORDS.

good night.

Today I decided to build a home—MY home!!! This is for real. I'm serious.:) Up until this point I haven't ever seen myself staying anywhere long enough to buy a home, and I haven't felt like I should buy a home. But I was inspired today by an email Sandra sent me. She's a lady I work with. I'm the editor for a book called Put Your Life on a Diet, and she sent me an email about a home for sale in Toronto that tied right in with the book. The author lives in a home that is 7 x 10 feet. Living in such small quarters doesn't appeal to me, but the little house you see here does appeal to me! Isn't it cute? I don't like that the house is so long (it was built in a driveway) and I think i would get claustrophobic without windows along the walls lengthwise, but I do love the idea of living in a small home.
I debated making the move to Toronto but decided that I don't want people to think I'm Canadian. I'd have to get a Canadian driver's license. I will just build my own home in the USA.

Of course, I have a long ways to go since I have no clue where I'd want to build it, how much land would cost, how much it'd cost to build the house, what I want my house to look like, and how long it would take to build. It's so exciting though!
