First Day of School!

I can't believe the summer is already over.  Between swim team and traveling, and the fact that it has been gray and rainy this year, it hardly feels like we've had a real summer vacation.  (And I will never get used to school starting before Labor Day--just seems wrong to me.)

 But Bean was more than ready for 4th grade.  Other than a few moments of nerves last night, she's been nothing be excited for this since the day she found out we got back into the school.  She lucked out and has 3 friends she already knows in her class this year, and another 18 to get to know!

 Bug has not been excited.  He's enjoyed homeschooling, and hasn't ever been to real school (and he was my kid who cried every day for most of the first year of preschool because he didn't want me to leave him--and then cried when I picked him up because he was having too much fun to leave.)  He has had some anxiety the last few days as we've been preparing, but I took him to the school with me on Saturday to do some work, and he got to meet his teachers a few days before that, so I hoped that would help him feel a little more comfortable.  We told him we know it's scary doing something new, but he really is going to love it.

Luckily, it went as well as we knew it would.  We ran into friends on the way in, which helped everyone a little, and Bug barely said goodbye to me after I got him into class.  Both kids jumped into the car at pick up yelling, "I had a great day!"  It was only a 2 hour drop in this morning, where they drank some lemonade, met some friends and teachers, and got used to the classrooms a little.  Tomorrow is the first full day, which just means a few more hours of fun.  I'm so grateful that they are getting such a great school experience where they will look forward to going each day.  It makes it a little easier to send my babies away each day.  (And Mama is looking forward to some one-on-one time with Peanut, and some real alone time during his nap each day!)
