Raingear? Check.

Another hike, this time in the rain. This trail should be real interesting with more cold weather and maybe some snow. The rocks were covered with ice and the water was pouring down the mountain. In the video I say "holiday cheer," but what I mean is extra poundage. The beard is definitely looking scruffy. Starting tomorrow, no more scruff.

Happy Late Turkey Day!

Hope everyone is doing well. We are still having fun out here in VA. You may have noticed from the video that I have grown a beard in honor of beard month. It will soon, but not soon enough, go away. Some guys from work and I are trying to hold out until there is one bearded man standing. Oddly, there is no prize. Of course, that may not be odd when it comes to guys showing off their manlyhood. We don't need a reward, only motivation (i.e. competition).

And, yes, that is a breathe-right nose strip on Rebes' nose.

Rick's Idaho Trip

My trip out to Idaho turned out to be one of the best trips I have ever had, despite leaving my beautiful wife in Virginia for 10 days (serious downer). The only way it could have been better is if she had been with me. The schedule went something like this...

Saturday, Aug 10th: Attempt Borah Peak with Patrick, almost made it (about 4k feet elevation gain)



Sunday, Aug 11th: Climb Leatherman Peak solo (about 6.5k elevation gain)



Monday, Aug 12th: Family pics and BBQ















Tuesday, Aug 13th: Help Jared and Lisa move, then temple session with the family
Wednesday, Aug 14th: Fishing with Dad and Stephen















Thursday, Aug 15th: Quality visit with Nichole and then movie with Clay and Nick
Friday, Aug 16th: Float Boise river with Clay, then rock climbing on the Black Cliffs with Clay, Aaron, Nathan, Paul, and my Dad taking pics



































Saturday, Aug 17th: More rock climbing on the Black Cliffs with Clay and Justin















































It was an amazing trip! Thanks to all my family and friends who were able to spend some time hanging with me. It was SO GOOD to see old friends and to be able to get acquainted with my newest niece and nephews.

One Hike at a time

We have been on several hikes that have not been blogged. Mostly this is because they were long and humid, non-eventful, or lack pictures. Some of our hiking is to: 1. Keep in shape (weight management for summer sweets) 2. Teach me about the garmin & directions 3. Practice First Aid. The THIRD reason is not pre-planned, but is decided by the course of events. :) This leads to me to my latest personal hike: Raven Rocks. I completely wiped out!


We do this hike on a regular basis, SO there are usually no surprises and one should be able do it by "oneself." Obviously that "Oneself" is going to be a bit more careful in the future and will ALWAYS carry a First Aid Kit (w/o complaining). Rick has good "suggestions" of what to carry in a pack for hiking, but I have taken it lightly at times and instead filled it with comments from the "Peanut Gallery." Times have changed. ( Below Raven Rocks 6.08, 2-3x month hike)

I have concluded that what Rick recommends to bring, for an 'outdoor' activity, I go along with and I know that at some point it will be beneficial. My husband, I have dubbed, "The Boy Scout." The Chicken Hat

I'm sure you’re all asking yourself where & why would someone put this on their head? Well, as luck would have it... (yes LUCK, how else do you find one of these)... we were out to dinner, with friends, and the restaurant was advertising their chicken dishes by wearing these silly hats. I couldn't resist the humor and so they gave me one!

My idea: The next BIG Bet or Competition is that the "loser" will have to wear this hat, with the one piece red spandex outfit, and have to go for a run in public.

That would be embarrassingly funny! :) There will definitely be a new post if that comes to fruition!

Ditching Routine Life for a Day... A Wonderful Idea!

If you played hooky for a day, what would you do?

To keep the day full of "low expectations" (this to ensure maximum fun), we started the morning with our "bi-annual" visit to the dentist and it had really been over 2 years for one of us...

The day could only get better from there. We went to DC to ride the paddle boats in the Tidal Basin and visit the Natural History Museum. We had dessert from The Cheesecake Factory (delicious), perused the REI store, and ended with a movie.

**Please note I LOVE the matching hair color, as only a hair designer would I'm sure!

The weather was ideal and it was a really GREAT day!
