Christmas Morning

I'm not super on the ball ( as all of you know who read this) but I wanted to get our Christmas morning pictures up, mostly because we had so much fun. Abbie woke up at 7:30 and we brought her downstairs. The first thing she saw was her new doll stroller - which really was the highlight of the day. She spent the first while pushing the doll, the second little bit trying to sit in it herself, and then put all of her other toys in it. The second success was the Fisher Price little people which she spent shoving into the mini pet store - people and all. This was her attempt to organize them. She had a wonderful Christmas.
We spent Christmas Eve with my (Emily's) family. Russ went skiing with my family and Abbie and I stayed and played with cousins. Then we had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner and present bonanza with my family. This evening we went over to Russ's dad's home and played with cousins again. All in all a wonderful Christmas. The first picture is of Abbie and the stroller, the second with the Fisher Price Little People, and the third of Abbie in Russ's shoes because her own toys got old after awhile.
PS, the stain on Abbie's pants is in fact apple sauce, in case you wondered.

Gray Family Christmas Letter

Sorry to be doing this electronically this year. I tell myself that it because we are so technologically advanced, but the truth is we are just running late.

This year has been an eventful one for all of us. As a family, we flew to Portland, Oregon in July to visit Emily’s brother and his family, as well as Russ’s mom, Grandma, and cousins. We also went camping in Huntington Canyon at our stake property. Abbie loved her first camping experience, and the highlight was the new concept of “rock throwing.” We also took a little jaunt down to Capital Reef, where we spent the weekend hiking in the red rock country.

Emily started teaching this year at LDS Business College on Thursday nights. She did very well, and just finished up her second semester. Although Emily will protest, I will say that several of her students commented that they really liked her class, which made all the difficult moments of the semester pay off. Emily also chose to enter our family in a 5K in November, our first one ever. We finished in good time, and technically, Abbie finished before either of us, being pushed in the stroller. In early September, Emily also climbed Mount Olympus for her first time ever on, more than likely, the hottest day of this year. Due to the heat (and the added weight of Abbie), it was probably the most miserable hike any of us had done yet. However, the view and bragging rights were well worth the grueling climb.

Russ has managed this year working hard and coming home to be super dad every night to Abbie. He has gladly taken on bed-time duty at our house and is the highlight of his daughter’s day. He is still working at Modern8, and doing well. He enjoys his job, which is a huge plus. Liking your job makes life more fun. Russ’s highlight of the year was the opportunity to go to England with his dad, brother, and brother-in-law for some much deserved male bonding. He spent the week on a narrow boat exploring the English countryside and finishing up in London to revisit some of our favorite haunts. Russ has also starting oil painting again – much to his family’s delight. We are hoping that if things work out, he will have a show in mid-January. Russ finished off the year being called as the Elder’s Quorum President in our ward. Our ward definitely will present him with some unique challenges but Russ is looking forward to the opportunity.

Abbie is always the highlight of our lives. This year, among other things, she has learned to walk, run, climb, dig into Tupperware, take out every towel in the kitchen drawer, and drop her binky in every possible – and impossible location under her crib. She has also started talking a mile a minute – sometimes in English - and knows many animals, her colors (most of the time), her family, the parts of her face, and a large handful of other words. The biggest challenge for Abbie this year was finding out she was allergic to peanuts. One PBJ and trip to the insta-care is all it took, but it was a traumatic experience for mom, dad and Miss Abbie. Abbie has ended this year with a broken arm, which thankfully slowed her down for only two days and she is back to being our ever-pleasant, often goofy, and always beautiful little kiddo.

We hope the holidays have found you happy and well. We love you all and wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Week of Misadventures for the Grays

So I'm slowly getting the hang of blogging, which for me this week means getting around to it. I don't have any pictures of our misadventures of the week - but hopefully we're getting them up soon. The reason I don't have any pictures is that currently I am watching my students take their final and don't have our camera with me.

This week has been more than slightly crazy. It started with me feeling deathly ill on Monday. By Monday night I was okay but Russ was still managing everything. In the process Abbie was doing her normal nightime routine - sitting on the sink, brushing her teeth. Russ turned (but was still behind her) and she found the one spot to lean back where Russ wasn't and fell. She seemed okay that night so we put her to bed. Tuesday, I noticed that she was favoring her arm - so we took her in to the doctor. But unfortunately I was still not at peak performance and told the doctor to look at the wrong arm.
Later I reallized my error we went back to the night clinic only to meet with the one doctor I dislike at the office who told me I was paranoid. The next day we spent at Primary Children's Medical Center confirming a pressure fracture in her humerus bone (upper arm.) Poor kid can't even have it splinted and has to walk around in a sling.
We came home thinking our adventures were over when that night Abbie came down with the stomach flu - all night. Double poor kid. The next day we woke up to a broken washing machine and a huge pile of smelly laundry from Abbie's illness the night before.

So tonight I am counting my many blessing that Abbie is fine, and not seriously injured, as she is still able to dance "Ring Around the Rosies" with us and say her colors. Grateful that we are able to get a new washing machine, and grateful for all of the family and friends that helped us through this chaos.

So If I've been delinquent in getting back to you all I apoligize!

M's First Blog

So I thought I would add something to my husband's beginning. I'm actually really excited to finally be doing this as I have so many friends and family that are already on the bandwagon. So I hought I would just start by showing Abbie trying on my shoes and display the really artist in the family - Russ - with the latest paintings he has been working on. I'm still getting the hang of this so you'll have to give me lots of feedback!
