UGH!

My memory card corrupted. Again. With pictures on it. And this time I have not been able to get them back :(. And I really want them. Pictures of Kutey on ice skates for the first time. Kutey wearing a dress my mom made for me when I was little (yeah, I can put her in it again, but they were cute pictures!). I may fork over some big bucks to try to get them back (there were quite a few on it, so it might be worth it) but I will be buying a new card, too. And I won't be buying that brand. EVER. AGAIN.

Red Beans and Rice

Yesterday, I made this for dinner. I like red beans and rice, but honestly, who wants to cook a ham hock? So this recipe seemed like a good idea. If I had read the instructions a bit better before I started would have helped, but I did eventually get them made. Kiddo deemed them yummy, thanked me for making it, and ate his whole bowl. Kutey was slightly less enthusiastic, but ate them still. I found them OK, though missing something (probably the ham hock flavor, huh?) We did end up adding sliced ham to it, though that is not the same as a ham hock and really it didn't change the flavor much. Would I make it again? Maybe. I'm going to do some research and see if I can find another recipe to try. It was good, I just wanted something a little bit more in the area of flavor.

A productive day

The bread machine is whirring, the dishwasher is running, the beans are on the stove soaking for dinner tonight, Kiddo is done with school and quietly playing Legos, Kutey is asleep in her room. I made cornbread cupcakes for lunch. I'll make some bars or cookies in a bit. In all, quite the productive day!

If only there was coconut in my house

I would use it to make this Coconut Chai breakfast cake, and then I would eat it all! Ok, so not all, I would share it, but doesn't it look nummy?

The book front is not getting any better. I went to the bookstore again today. While some of you think you can't possibly have too many books, and I was once of that mindset as well, I think that once one no longer has space to store the books and they become floor decorations and furniture, one might in fact have too many. At the very least, I have too many for my current space for books.

But the books I picked up were too good to leave! Snowflake Bentley, The Mitten, Gingerbread Baby, A Bargain for Frances, Little Bear, and a couple that the kids wanted (Arthur, Cinderella, Clifford), but they were 50 cents to a dollar off the clearance shelves.

A Bargain for Frances was purely a nostalgic purchase. I remember it from when I was a kid. But as is the case with many of my favorite childhood books, it wasn't mine. It belonged to my sister, so I am happy to have found my own copy at a great price. I would like to find Bread and Jam for Frances, too, perhaps with the audio since that is how I remember it!

For now, though, I am content with these books. At least until my next trip to the book store.....

Hair Binders

When you have a little girl with longish hair, hair binders and barrettes are your friend and your nemesis. I have had long hair my entire life, ranging from shoulder length to waist length. I am familiar with hair doodads. Still, even after all these years, I can't, for the life of me, figure out where they all go! I buy a pack of ponytail holders/hair binders. You figure there are at least 20 in a package. By the end of a month, at least half of them are gone. After two months, I am lucky if I can locate two to put in Kutey's hair! I know they wear out, I can handle that. I know they break, that too, I can accept. But these are just disappearing! I had 4 packages of Hello Kitty ponytail holders/hair binders, with 4 in each package. That is 16 total. I can currently find 6. WHERE DID THE OTHER 10 GO??????? And don't even ask me about barrettes.

The library book tally

Has increased to 53. Plus I bought 7 new books at the thrift shop. I might have a problem.

A positive sign

As I type there is a flock of robins flying about my yard. That is a good sign that it is at least headed toward warmer. YAY!
