Delinquent

I've been incredibly delinquent in posting, and probably wouldn't have been able to fit it in today except that I woke up about 4 am and couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to at least post my reasons for not posting.

Although the economy is slow, my personal travel business economy has been hopping since the first of the year. I'm constantly booking trips for past clients, who still want to trot all over the globe. I've also been training a new recruit who wants to specialize in honeymoons & wedding packages.

In addition to my weekly Monday subbing in a 4th grade, I've also been doing quite a bit of other subbing. As the word gets out I find I'm called more and more. It's a good thing, but takes some getting used to after several years of being able to decide what I do with my time, to being gone the same hours my kids are for days on end.

And I'm working hard on getting in all my classes in order to re-certify and get my teaching license up to date. In February, I've been gone 3-4 weekdays each week, either subbing or in classes all day.

We just had New Beginnings on Tuesday night for Young Women's. The Laurels (which means me) are in charge of a combined YW/YM activity next Tuesday: an etiquette dinner and ballroom dancing.

In between all of these things, I'm trying to put dinner on the table every night, go to Girl's Camp meetings and YW basketball games, help kids with homework, take Jamison to hunter's safety classes, Tristan to scouts, and Raleigh & Sabra to tumbling & dance. Sean's been working like crazy the nights & weekends he's on call, in addition to his regular schedule. Sunday was Sabra's birthay. Wednesday I went to the funeral of Micah & Shilo Edwards, the two sisters who were killed in a car accident last Friday on their way home from Snow College. They were neighbors of ours in West Bountiful, and their mom was my visiting teaching partner for two years before we moved. What a tragic thing; thank goodness for the knowledge that their family will see them again!

Life is busy. I'll try to post more often in the future!

Seven Years Ago...

It was the middle of the Salt Lake Winter Games in 2002. The weekend before Valentine's Day (which was on a Thursday) Sean & I and our three children (aged 6, 4, and 2) went with Mom & Dad, Daniel and Rachel downtown to the Olympic-hosted events to see what fun we could find. We went into the Coca-Cola sponsored tent, and there they had all kinds of events that people could participate in. I specifically remember the bobsledding and luge, although I believe there were about 6-7 events total. I was nine months pregnant (due in two weeks), so I didn't participate in any of the events, but had fun watching. Everyone in our family who participated in events medaled, even Jamison!

The following Friday night we had tickets with most of our extended family members to see the church's production of "Light of the World" in the conference center, which they were showing throughout the Olympic games. We'd reserved our tickets about three months prior.

The morning of Friday, Feb. 15 I woke up feeling a few contractions, but they went away and I wondered if that meant I was going to have a baby that day. About 1:00 that afternoon they started up again, and by 3:00 or so I called Sean at work to tell him he needed to come home and get me. He asked how much time he had, and I responded that I thought he had time to pick up Jamison from kindergarten at 3:30 first. Then I called Rachel to come watch our kids.

By the time Sean arrived, I felt very ready to get to the hospital. Luckily we only lived about ten minutes from Lakeview. I moved pretty slowly across the parking lot into the hospital, having to stop and grab Sean's arm during contractions. Happily, it wasn't long before I could sit down in a wheelchair. The nurse checking me in brought us into the room. Sean said, "She's probably dilated to an eight or so," in an anxious voice (the contractions were about 3-5 minutes apart). The nurse was slowly moving around doing her thing, and said in a lazy voice, "OK, we'll have to check her." She checked me and announced, "She IS an eight! Do you want an epidural, honey? You'll have to get it now before it's too late." And finally she started hustling.

Sabra Nell was born at 4:45 pm on Friday, February 15. We'd been waiting for one more girl, and although we hadn't found out previously what sex she was, I had just known all along that she was my baby girl. What a blessing and gift!

She's still our gift from heaven. When I remember her birth, it just doesn't seem like she can be seven years old already. She's now a spunky, smart first grader who knows her mind, stands up admirably to her older siblings and has no problem speaking her mind. She's had her dad wrapped around her little finger right from the get-go, as well as the rest of us.

For her birthday, which was a Sunday this year, we had my sisters and families over for dinner and cake. Monday, President's Day, we went to Chuck E. Cheese with Sean's family. We all had a great time celebrating Sabra's seven years on the earth!
