It has been more than two months since I have posted an update here... and what a time it's been! A quick synopsis to get you up to date:
- We found out we were chosen by a birthmom pregnant with twins on June 15th! This AMAZING news started our crazy dash to get ready for the twins by their due date in late July. Our friends from church threw us a shower and we also bought a new car-- we graduated to minivan status overnight =)
- On July 1st we met the birthmom and that went really well. We liked her and she seemed to like us, and we found out the twins would be delivered via c-section on the 8th of July!
- On the 8th Forrest and I drove to the birthmom's hometown for the delivery. Cora Danielle was born at 12:48pm weighing 4lb 6oz with Asher Eli right after her at 12:49pm weighing 6lb 9oz. The next few days were difficult for us as we had very limited access to the twins while they were in the hospital. Asher was finally discharged to us on Sunday, July 12th, and Cora was released the next day when she proved she could keep up her body temperature and gain weight. On July 13th we brought the twins home!

And it has been a baby whirlwind since then =) Our church gave us such amazing support our first weeks with the twins: someone (or two someones) came over to help EVERY DAY and we had a hot dinner delivered to the door every second night for three weeks. We could not have survived that stressful time without the amazing working of the body of Christ!
On July 31st Jama (For's mom) arrived! Her cheerful spirit, tireless help, warm hugs and general wonderfulness have made the last month less work and more fun. She leaves on Saturday to head back to Botswana and then, less than a week later, Myma (my mom) comes to see the babes.

229-215ish Portraits of a munchkin

5/16 Judah's new favorite punk pose =)

5/17 Look, I'm in a picture! Judah loves to stretch with me (i.e. sit in my lap and get in my way)after runs. Can't you tell from his look that he loves it??? But, really, I couldn't get away from him if I tried. Mama sitting on the floor = jungle gym.

5/18 Captain Judah (on our neighbors' 42 foot diamond in the rough)

You'd never know it by the look on his face, but our neighbor Myron was beside himself with pleasure when Judah went to him and wanted to sit in his lap. I think the boat made him legit in Judah's mind =)

5/19 Our newest backyard discovery. Judah didn't want to have anything to do with the snail at first, and then he just wanted to poke it over and over to make it go in its shell. What a boy!

5/20 Attack!

These ducks had been full-on swimming in our front yard about 2 minutes before this picture was taken. See the body of water at the bottom of the picture? That was our street, flowing with water from 1 to 4 inches deep for a week straight. Mother Nature doesn't mess around down here.

5/29 Judah wanted to be tucked in with a blanket this morning for a pretend nap in the living room. To amuse myself (shame, shame!) I decided to swaddle him and... he actually liked it!

I, on the other hand, got what I deserved when my eyes welled with tears at the image in my mind of the day we came home from the hospital and he was sleeping in his own bed for the first time.

Great memories, but he is growing too fast!

Wise-ish words

I was going through pictures from the last year looking for shots of me and Judah together. I found... three. Total. Three pictures from a whole year of spending 10 waking hours a day with him. When I read this entry on Pioneer Woman Photography the next day, I felt like the message was meant for me. The gist: GET IN THE PICTURE! Your kids don't care that you haven't showered, your future self will be amazed at how young/skinny/rested/happy you look in retrospect, and you will actually be part of your family's captured memories! Amen.

237-230ish ... Judah's bad week

*Fair warning: later in this post there are a couple up-close pictures of a wasp, in case you are a bug hater. (I am obviously not a bug hater, unless it's the kind that has a mexican hat song written about it. See! I can't even type the name.) Ok, back to cute baby already!*

5/13 Judah just wanted to be held and snuggle all day long. I thought he was just teething. I should have known the storm was coming!

5/14 This is the Thursday morning around 10. We had taken Judah to the ER around 1am and left at 4:30 with a diagnosis of croup. His wheezing went away while we were at the hospital, so we were all able to get some sleep when we got home. He looks about 10 times more rested in this picture than either Forrest or I did at the same time though, I can tell you that!
