Girl Magnets

This week has been really busy, but we had a lot of fun.  Mark and Paul had their musical dress rehearsals and  performances this week.  They were tired (in fact I let Paul stay home from school on Friday because he was so tired!) but they did well behavior wise despite their exhaustion.

The boys came shopping with me last week to pick out some snacks to eat during the long dress rehearsal nights and during the performances.  They both picked out a can of Pringles potato chips.  When Paul opened his can he had four or five girls surround him asking him to share.  (He shared Mark's chips with the girls!)  Mark said that now he knows how Paul can get a date.  All he needs to do is open a can of Pringles!  It was fun to be back stage with the boy's group to see how they interacted with the girls.  (Their group had about 5 boys and 20 girls).   We now refer to Pringles as 'girl magnets'.

The boys each had a solo in a song and they did really good.  I was super proud of them!  I really didn't expect them to stay on key and with the tempo as well as they did.  Friday night the weather caused some delays.  It started raining so hard when the play started, that we couldn't hear the actor.  The musical was performed at an outdoor theater.  It is a huge covered pavilion with a stage.  We had to take a few breaks here and there during the show to let the rain settle down.  My dad joked that he only got to see the "watered down" version of the play!

The rain storm provided a gorgeous double rainbow before the performance started.

Here are some pictures from the musical.

All in all, the boys had a wonderful experience and they can't wait for the next one!  Seth will be old enough to participate and he is really excited!

Enjoy It

Today Jane and I went to Costco together.  I put her in the sling and carry her so that I have room for all of the groceries in the cart.  She was being really talkative and cute when an older lady (who had an Irish accent- I LOVE her accent!) came up to me and talked for a bit.  As she was leaving, she looked at me and said, "Enjoy it!".  I am really trying hard to take her advice to enjoy having a little one.  It can get overwhelming and I feel like I don't get much accomplished most days.  I have to remember that spending time with Jane, even if it is just holding her to keep her happy, IS doing something!  It is rather difficult to multitask with a baby.

Jane turned 3 months old yesterday!  Time has gone so quickly.  I can't believe it!

We have had a lot going on lately, so I just want to post some pictures of what I have enjoyed lately.

I love Jane's square face!

This is where Jane sits while I make dinner.  She makes for great company in the kitchen (most of the time!)

Snarky

Snarky; Adjective: (of a person, words, or a mood) Critical; cutting; testy.

That describes our family lately.  We have all been a bit snarky with each other.  Seth has enjoyed school, but he is tired.  Paul is tired.  Mark is just plain snarky.  Me?  I've been snarky and depressed.  Not a fun combination.  Daniel has been tired and trying the best of all of us not to be snarky, but his boss has been super snarky.

Fortunately, Jane can't be snarky, but she has been needy.  She has been sleeping through the night most nights (8 hours) so we shouldn't complain that she needs us more during the day.  I feel like I am falling behind on everything.

I'm going to go find some "Snarky Be Gone Elixir" before I go pick the boys up from school.

A Musical

Mark and Paul are in a musical called "We Built This City on Rock and Roll: a story of the Unbeatables".  It is a production through Herriman city.  The cast is all children ages 6-12.  The boys are part of the chorus.  We decided that this was a great introduction to theater, so they signed up.  They have had fun learning the choreography.  It has been a bit of a challenge, but they are doing well.  Seth knows most of the dances now as he has watched the boys practice and has picked it up.

If you plan on going to the play and you have never been to Rosecrest Pavilion, I highly recommend that you Google the address for directions.

What a Week!

The wedding luncheon went really well.  We had about 45 people here, so it was a full house, but awesome food made up for the cramped quarters.  Daniel made stir-fry (broccoli and beef and a chicken cashew).

We were a bit nervous about having everyone over because we almost didn't have a working kitchen sink.  At 9:30 the night before I filled the sink with soapy water to do the dishes and when I reached under the sink to get the gloves, they were wet.  The seal to the sink drain had broken.  Daniel messed around with it, but determined that he needed to get a new part.  Lowe's was closed, so he woke up at 5:45 a.m. so that he could get to the store as it opened and get the sink repaired.  Phew!  Crisis diverted!

Chris and Megan are a beautiful couple.  I am glad to have Megan join our family (hopefully she feels the same after meeting everyone!)

Daniel's dad was released from the hospital on Friday, so he is recovering at home.  His broken ribs are quite painful and time will be the only thing that will help.  He is really frustrated that he needs help with a lot of things, but with broken ribs and two broken wrists, help is necessary.  Hugs to Mom.

Today I was playing around with Jane.  I was holding and lifting her up and down when she started to giggle!  It was so cute.  Daniel looked over at me and asked if she giggled.  He grabbed the camera and caught her little giggle.  It wasn't a long giggle, but it was so cute!  She is getting bigger and reaching more milestones.  The other day she was babbling so loudly that she woke me up!  She has been finding her thumb and sucking on it today!  Jane is such a joy to be with!    You can hear her giggle around the 8 second mark.  The rest of the time she is babbling and squawking. (I've been having problems with Blogger accepting my video, maybe this link will work.  Let me know if it doesn't! You will need a Facebook account to view it)

Initial Reaction

Saturday night (or rather Sunday morning at 1 a.m.) Daniel got a phone call informing him that his dad had been in a motorcycle accident.  He was in Roosevelt and Life Flight was going to take him to University of Utah hospital.  Daniel had just come home from a movie with his sister Andrea.  She is in town for their brother Chris's wedding on Tuesday.  When we got the news, all we knew was that he was stable, but needed attention that a small hospital couldn't provide.

It would be interesting to ask everyone what their initial reaction was because it may be that no one had the same reaction.  We are all in such different emotional places that our reactions won't necessarily be the same.

When Daniel told me, my first thought and what I said to him was "Oh, your poor Mom".  Janet's mother died on Wednesday of last week (July 28th) and now she has to deal with possibly loosing her husband.

Andrea's first thought was "I almost went home with him, I could have been on that bike".

Daniel instantly felt sorry for his Dad because of the pain he must be in.

The beautiful thing about it is that there isn't a right or a wrong way to feel.  We all have the ability to deal with situations differently.

So here is what I know about Dad's accident.  He hit a deer while riding his motorcycle through Wolf Creek Pass.  His most serious injury is a punctured lung.  He has broken ribs and broke both of his wrists.  He should be having surgery on his wrists today.  So far there hasn't been talk of when he will be released.  He is doing as well as can be expected.

We are making preparations for the wedding tomorrow.  Last minute changes and such have moved the wedding luncheon to my house.  I have just had to accept that I can't do things to the house that I would prefer to do before hosting a party here (like changing the curtains in the kitchen and cleaning corners and  closets).  It will be all I can do to get the food prepped and furniture moved around. Oh bother!
