I Cry the Day I Cut the Tree Down

Well, at least Brett wanted to cry!!!
A few years back, Brett thought it would be really cool if we grew our own Christmas Tree. So, we bought a little Christmas tree and planted it in our backyard. It grew about 4-6 inches each year minus the 3-4 inches we lost to the bunnies the first year. Dang rrrrrrabbits!! It was transplanted once due to gardening issues but it did pretty well. Then- here comes Democracy in it's finest! With Brett's 5 years up here in Fargo, we are up for an "Office of Preference" move. Where are we going? We have NO idea BUT, if we do venture away this year before next Christmas, we would sadly have to leave our Christmas Tree behind. Well, we voted! ...Brett lost and the Tree is coming DOWN!! (all 3 foot 3 inches, of it!:) Enjoy what you got while you got it!- That's our motto- at least for this Christmas.
For our FHE activity tonight, we bundled up warm for some good ol' fashion Christmas Tree pickin'! We headed clearrrrr to the back fence! We all helped! *Shay's the designated memory documentor *Brett's the chain saw master. *Justice helped with the saw- Oh yah! Powertools! The manly man! *Victoria was the light in the darkness *Liberty was the Christmas Spirit * Glory was just happy to be there!
Liberty really doesn't like loud noises so she covered her ears and tried to run but I had her stand close to Glory in case she got startled. Gentlemen... START your engines!!!! VRR-Clunk! I mean..... TIIIMMMBBBER!!!! Liberty said- "That's it?" YEP!!!! Doesn't take much when you're as buff as these boys OR the trunk is only 2 inches thick! LOL!Justice hoisted the little tree above his head and carried it inside. What a buff boy!!After much pine-needle-pricking OUCH!! (Who buys real trees anyways!?) and a few extra pieces of wood to hold it in place [The screws just weren't quite long enough:)]- Our Tree is up!!! A lot of lights, Friday Night's Ornament Exchange and we are in business!!
Merry Christmas Charlie Brown!
Don't worry though our little 4-foot fiber optic is going downstairs this year. We aren't leaving him out at all! The kids are so excited to have 2 trees they can't even stand it!
P.S. Brett did say I could actually buy a real -size tree at the end of this season-
We'll have to see though. I've grown to LOVE our little (I mean, really little) Christmas tree tradition!

Thanksgiving 2009: Just THANKful

We have so much to be grateful for! Where do you even start?
Well, I guess a good place is with our Thanksgiving guests. We are grateful for the McKee family. We've know them for a couple years now. We've spent a few different holidays with them, shared playdates and family dinners, guy lunch dates, crafty projects, movies, laughter and fun! Thanks guys for being such great friends to us! You are an awesome family! The Ironroads- Man! Do we love these guys! We like to just consider them fam! We love spending time with these two. We've done it all! Hanging out, [literally with Matt & Victoria as part of the crew. LOL!], holidays- pumpkin carving, Left-over Christmas dinners, Conference weekend breakfasts(Yummy!), house projects, craft projects, bambi killin', Christmas presents, movie nights, provocative emails (oh! I mean no- we don't do things like that, Jacob!... I mean Matt!), TOFW weekends, laughter and luv! We are so thankful for your friendship, guys!My family! Wow! Who could ask for a better family? Brett is the most amazing man I have ever met! He really is! He is an amazing provider, romantic, thoughtful, strong, spirtitual, loving, kind, and HOT [Way hotter than Jacob with his shirt off! LOL!] (Even when he does try to turn me into a vampire- thanks a lot, love!) Liberty is such a sweet girl. She is amazingly smart, a fabulous reader, gorgeous, kind, thoughtful, and so helpful. Justice is so strong, funny, a quick learner, a big helper, handsome (I mean guapo!), always wants everyone to laugh and be happy and has a contagious laugh. Victoria is a smarty pants. She loves to create things for people, is a great laundry folder, and cleaner, just as cute as a button, and has the best smile ever! Glory is my baby! What can I say- She's the cutest little destroyer there ever was. She does like to be helpful, and gives great hugs and kisses. She's a ham and always gets everyone rolling when she thinks she's funny! I just have the greatest family EVER! There are also a million other things to be grateful for. First and foremost, the Gospel! Especially because it's what gives all else purpose. God is amazing! We are grateful for our testimonies of the Savior, Jesus Christ. For His plan for us and for his sacrifice for us so that we can return to Him someday if we do our very best to follow Him! We're grateful for prayer, and being sealed in the Temple for time and all eternity. We're grateful for the Bishop and the Prophet. For loving service given each day by amazing people. For the priviledge of living in a free country. For a comfortable home, cars to drive, food to eat, and modern technology. We're grateful for our fabulous families all across the country. For our awesome Fargo family. All the amazing people God has put in our path and blessed our lives (yeah- that's you!). We are really truly blessed!!! Hope that this Thanksgiving you have just as much to be thankful for! (Cuz I'm sure you do!) Love you all!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving 2009: The ParTay

So... on with the ParTay portion of this Holiday!
After stuffing ourselves completely, I stole my lady friends for a craft! Once again, I know, SHOCKER!
A little background info- my dear aunt has an awesome Tradition she does & I LOVE Traditions! Every year she makes a craft and gives it to someone with a little "Thankful for you" love note. Well, I wanted to pass on the tradition. My dear Vinyl Friend Karisa (http://quotationsfromtheheartoh1.goods.officelive.com/Woodblocks.aspx) had these adorable Gratitude Stack-ems on her website. I bought a handful of the vinyl from her. I had Brett cut out and sand the wood for me this week. (I love ya Honey. You're amazing!)
I had Brett make enough blocks so that my friends and I could each make one for ourselves and one to give away with a love note. Here's our craftin' parTay:Here's some of the finished blocks. So fun! VT in it's finest, people! (Hey I got 4 days left of November) And yes, those Indians are also in honor of our guests! Aren't they beautiful?
Meanwhile, the "BOYS" and the kids watched some football and played games! For some, the turkey set in and a tiny snooze was in order. Then, Dessert Time! We had just as much pie choices as dinner choices. We had raspberry cream cheese, 2 of the McKee's family tradition banana-creamy pies, Garlod's apple crumb top, 2 Pumkin pies (gotta have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving!), and the most popular for the night, the Ironroad speciality French Silk! :) Delicioso!!!We had some other fun kid games we never got to because the night got away from us. But, to wrap up our festivities, we made a little treat/craft with the kids. So adorable! Thanks Haylie for the idea. The kids wouldn't even eat them they were so cute! OK, well Glory ate the pieces as we handed them to her but the rest the kids adored them!
Happy Turkey Day Everyone!

Thanksgiving 2009: The Feast

I love Holidays! No, I mean, I L.O.V.E. Holidays, people! I love the decorations, the parties, the traditions, the food, the crafts, the people, ALL of it!
This Thanksgiving is no exception!
After Brett's little, early morning, Turkey Bowl (BBall-style) get-together with his friends, he did a little last minute shopping. (Hallelujah! No Emergency Room visit! Besides, I told him I wouldn't be joining him there this year anyways!) Then, we spent the morning- madly cleaning the house (Someday, I will keep on top of all of it... or maybe not!:), sanding wood, watching football and doing some good old Thanksgivin' cookin' YUM!! for our Thanksgiving guests. The kids loved helping make the pies. They are such great helpers!!We cleared out the basement so that we could set up our tables for the feast. We set up two long tables and Liberty made decorations. I didn't get a picture of the table- darn it! I have failed as a photographer, I know. But, it was pretty cute!
When the guests arrived, we made Teepee name tags in honor of our Indian guests. [Love ya Matt! We're looking out for ya in this white's man's world LOL!] They turned out really fun and colorful.
We had way too much food!! Isn't that what the Thanksgiving feast is all about? Thanks everyone for all the yummy stuff! We had a 23 lb. turkey (thanks Honey- you are an awesome Turkey maker!), mashed potatoes, 2 kinds of gravy, 2 kinds of cranberry sauce, stuffing, sweet potato souffle (thanks Amber!), marshmellow candied yams, green bean casserole, corn, 2 kinds of McKee family jello salad, pickles and olives and deviled eggs, rolls and TommyTurkey butter! I love food!!! It was fabulous.I also sometimes go a little prop-crazy! I know... SHOCKER! While shopping the clearance section this past week, I found this awesome Turkey mold and HAD to have it! I wasn't sure what to do with it but we put it to good use for a fun Turkey Stuffing. I love it! So funny!AND last year I found Turkey shaped butter. Well, I kept the mold and we made Tommy Turkey Butter for the rolls. Aren't they so cute!? What can I say, I LOVE Holidays! Here's all our fabulous Dinner guests:
The Ironroads- Matt, Haylie and Victoria (She'd join their family in a heartbeat so we can count her as an Ironroad! :)The Kid Crew: Liberty, Jessica, Justice, Joseph, and GloryThe McKees- Greg, Lisa and BeckyThe cutest couple ever! (Oh!- Did I say that out loud? LOL!) My hubby and me
We just love friends. Thanks for coming guys! We sure love ya! We are extremely thankful for you in our lifes.

OK the post is getting long. I have a lot to be thankful for, I guess. Stayed tuned for our After-dinner Party!

THANKful for Traditions

Several years ago, Brett's sister gave us these adorable little Turkeys for a Christmas gift. They have wholes drilled in the top to stick feathers in them. Mari included several paper feathers on sticks to write things we are thankful for about each person. Since then, we have added a few children, a few more turkeys, and lots of feathers (which we laminated to save a few trees along the way) but the tradition has stuck! Each year for FHE around Thanksgiving, we all enjoy pulling out the wet erase markers and sharing what we love about each other on our little Turkey friends! It's fun especially since now all but the little one write their own. It's so cute the things they think about each person. I love it! It's one of my favorite traditions. Thanks Mariann!

I'm so THANKful for traditions that bring our little family closer! What better way to start the Christmas season then with a season of Gratitude.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Vampires & Werewolfs!!!

Obsessed? Some of us! (UMM! Jen M.!!) Psycho? No way! HOT? Definitely! Tons of friends & fun? Absolutely! What's greater than friends that you can act like a crazy teenage girl with?
A bunch of my dear friends have made the Twilight Series a little tradition of ours. Elaborate parties, Edward Attire (close to our hearts), HOT werewolves, late nights, lines of screaming teenage girls- Bring it!
We all bought our tickets well in advance and good thing we did because ALL 10 showings this weekend were sold out here in Fargo! See we aren't the only ones!!
Kristen B. hosted the Party this time for the Opening of the second Twilight movie- New Moon.
Wow! Did she (& Jen) go all out! I mean- really? Look at this table! GORGEOUS!! and so Twilight! We even had dimmed lights, candles and New Moon music in the background! We all got to make a Quote sign from the movie! I think my favorite was "Which is tempting you more, my blood or my body?" So funny!!! It was so much fun just acting like a kid again! We also made treat bags for the movie with "BITES" and "KISSES"!
We had a fabulous dinner! Spinach Salad, apples, rolls, Red drink (ya know- like blood!), Jen's yummy pasta casserole, and Brooke's "To Die for" Cheescake! Here's the beautiful dinner guests! Ashlee Weber, Kristen Tucker, Bonny Roberts, Jen Mausolf (and Amelia!) [Oh yeah and a few of the Brotherson kids in the background. Sean- Keep 'em in the basement, will ya? LOL!!!]Brooke Cook, Amber Hoffman, Kristen Brotherson and Me. (No! I did not dye my hair black just for the Movie, people!- But hey! it worked out all good for the theme of the night!)We made sure to get a group shot before we took off to the movie! We are such dorks but hey! The apples needed to be in the picture!! And we're just so darn beautiful in our black and red! (Hey- Kristen T- pink's a shade of red, right?)Here's our line of Girls at the Theater! Our little Obsessed Jen made us these awesome bottles to bring. What Type blood do you prefer- Type A negative, Type B positive, Type O negative- Whatever you choose- Drink it up! I'm Thirsty!Teri and Kaitlin Zollinger joined us at the movie! So here's the whole crew! We even asked a cuddly couple to swop seats so we could all sit together. Way to go Brooke! After the way too many previews, the lights dimmed and Brooke led the whole theater into a screaming frenzy as the movie started! WooHoo! Go Edward! or Jacob! Either is HOT! So just make a choice! or choose both- works for me & Bella!AND last but not least by any means!- Near and dear to our hearts! (Literally near to our hearts), we got together last Wednesday at playgroup and made New Moon necklaces to wear to the movie. I figure since most of this Twilight Craze come from her I'd get a picture of Jen and me with our necklaces! I LOVE ya Jen!

The whole night was a blast. Thanks ladies! You are so much fun to be with! See ya Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 for Eclipse! Can't wait! Anyone's welcome! (Ok- girls only!:)

Oh yah! Today was also- National Hug a Mormon Day! So we took the opportunity to make sure Jen got plenty of hugs! It's just preparatory for when she finally gets baptized and has to do all the huggin' herself! Watch out world-she's gonna be really good at it! LOL!

P.S. By the way- the movie was really good! AND ALSO- I really am NOT a psycho! I read this post to Brett and he said- I quote- "Those who don't know you are going to think you're obsessed. I know you and I'm starting to wonder. I'm going upstairs before I barf!" LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Love ya Honey! XOXO!

Good Journey to the Sanders

There are just some people that come into your life that you know were placed there by God! The Sanders Family are one of those! Over the last couple years, we have become great friends with Chris, Tiffany, Charlie, Kaitlin, Caleb and Jade! What amazing people! Chris and Brett met at work and decided that Tiff and I would be great friends. It took us longer than expected but we finally gave in! :) Tiff is such an amazing person. She is such a smart and beautiful and calm and loving and loyal and devoted and fun-loving and trustworthy friend. We probably didn't get together as much as we should but we sure did learn lots together. Crafting and laughing and talking about patience and prayer and God and His plan for us will always be treasured memories. Her family is just as awesome. Chris is such a great guy! He takes such great care of his family. It's hard to find people where the whole family just clicks but we sure love the Sanders. Fortunately (or unfortunately- depending on the moment!), Chris got a transfer and the Sanders are onto warmer, western pastures. It came way too fast but we are so excited for their new adventures awaiting them. We wish them the very best!
Every minute we could, we scheduled to spend time with them this last week before they left.
I took the kids for several days to play and stay out of the way of the big, bad movers! :) The kids played SO good. Unfortunately, the school-going kids felt a little jipped. Sorry guys!
Then, Tiff invited me out for a little intimate dinner with her close friends on Wednesday. We all met at Doolittles for a late night dinner/treat and laughter! (Sorry 'bout the graphic, horrid animal slaughter stories, Teri. LOL!) Here's all the girls- Shay, Tiff Sanders, Teri Hauser, Char Solberg, and Kelly Medders. They were a lot of fun! We even closed the place down. Thanks for including me ladies! For their last night in Fargo, we selfishly invited them to our house for dinner. Thanks for coming guys! The kids (and us too! except all the adults could have used a nap!) completely enjoyed themselves. After dinner, they headed downstairs for a fun game of cowboys and Indians. We only saw them maybe once the whole night! The kids are sure gonna miss them!We decide we needed some last snapshots of all of us. With our tripod MIA, I tried several stools and boxes to get a good shot with the selftimer on the camera. Luckily for us my visiting teachers stopped by just at the right time to snap a shot of the whole group- (Thanks Joy & Brooke!) Here's the whole gang- LtoR: Glory, Brett, Victoria, Chris, Kate, Caleb, Tiff, Charlie, Liberty, Shay and Justice! We sent them off with "Good Journey" bags full of treats and toys and presents and tons of love! Good Luck guys! We will sure miss ya tons! Save some warm weather for us when we come to visit and try not to fall off into the ocean! LOL! Love ya lots!

Sleeping Standing Up!

I think THIS picture is kind of like the "everyone at sometime in their life has to cut their bangs off really short with a pair of scissors they shouldn't have had in the first place" right of passage. I know that I did it and several of my kids have BUT really- how do you fall asleep standing up!? Cracks me up. My little tired baby! (Let's pretend we don't see the pants that are WAY too long, the disgusting blanket tag and the nice shiner across her cheek) Mother of the Year Award- Here I come!!!!

Out on His Own to Utah

Brett made a little trip to Utah this weekend to spend time with his nephew, Alex Rasmussen, before he leaves on his mission. It was short and sweet but here's some highlights:
He spent Friday night visiting with his awesome parents! Brett sure misses being close to them. We don't tell them enough how much we appreciate them. They call EVERY Sunday just for a couple minutes to say hi. It means a lot to us! We love ya guys!!
Bright and early Sat morn [Oh the good'ol days of Seminary. Right guys?], Brett went to breakfast with our dear BYU-going friends- Matt & Garrett Hendrickson & Lauren Adams. We started a little tradition with the Hendrickson boys. Everytime we make it to Utah, we take them out to eat paid for with our "Poor College Student" fund! We got a bonus this time cuz Lauren is down there as well and they were able to squeeze at least an early breakfast into their busy lives. Brett is still is trying to talk them all into calling him Brett instead of Brother Seamons but old habits die hard, I guess. So sad, the whole family couldn't see you guys but thanks for making time for our little tradition! Good luck with school. We sure luv ya all!The main reason for going was to make it to the Temple with Alex. So, on Saturday, he got to go to a session at the Salt Lake Temple with Alex & his sister, Janet. Always great to spend time in the Temple and especially with those you love!Brett got to see lots of his family and made a quick stop by a few of my families homes. Regretably, only one of them were home. Brett was glad though that he got to visit with my Dad & Edette for a bit! Miss you guys!
Of course with a weekend trip, it's never long enough to feel like you spent QUALITY time with anyone, let alone see everyone you'd like. But here are just a few of his sisters and their families that he got to see while he was there (Hey- I was just proud of him for getting any pictures at all. Way to go Honey! I'm so proud of you XOXO):
The always fun-lovin' Rasmussens [Louie, Alex, Jake, Zach, Lori, and Anna]:His baby sister and her cute little family- [Sky, Mike, Ky, and Janet Workman]:

The Awesome (AND SKINNY, by the way!!! Holy crap guys- You been workin out or what?? You look great!) Hill Family [Abby, Daniel, Luke, Jill, and Tayci:The Davis Family [Chandler, Dixon, Halle, Ethan, and Cheri] - How adorable are you!!!Brett really enjoyed his weekend. They spoiled him with no work, no kids up in the night, his favorite dinners, Mormon stores, really close Temples and time with the fam. I was just glad he decided to come back! :) Bummer we couldn't all make it this time! Next time perhaps. We love you all and miss you tons.
Good Luck on your mission Alex. You'll be awesome! Thanks for your great example to our family!
PS Sorry if I mutilated the names guys! I'll fix 'em if you let me know!

FIRST Paper-piece Block

I tried my hand at Paper-piecing this week. What better way to celebrate the memory then to do the North Dakota block! It was a lot of fun!
Oh no! Watch out Paper-piecing World of possibilites. Here I come!

Blanket after blanket after blanket....

A few weeks ago I was cleaning out my Craft room (I know it is a NEVER-ENDING project!) and came across 300 or so 5inch flannel squares. I was tempted to toss them but my PRA (PackRatAddiction) knew I would need them for something. So I took them from their page-protected pages they were stapled on and saved them in some coordinated piles.
WELLL- My Seamons Sisters and Mom decided to do a Service project instead of the Ornament Exchange this year. TADA! Fate! I can't be there cuz it's in Utah over Thanksgiving so I just happened to have enough flannel to offer several blankets (5 to be exact) for them to tie! Amazing! I got to work so I could send them in Brett's suitcase when he goes to visit this weekend. Hurray for free shipping!
I think they turned so fun!!! Only cost me $2.50 each for 3 backs and ALL the rest was product from a Crafter PRA!!! I love that I cleaned out a small part of the mess and put it all to good use!! (I even got to make an extra set of blocks for my friend Haylie to make one for her soon-coming niece/nephew)

See- that's why I save stuff!!!
