Austin is 5! Happy Birthday!
Happy 5th Birthday, Austin!
Little man, Happy Birthday. You are such a joy to me. The last few months have been a little rough, but I feel like we have come through it and grown together. You have adapted to some new rules, some changes, and some new responsibility very well. You do a great job of dressing yourself, putting your shoes and socks on when we need to leave, helping me with vacuuming or using the Windex. We love to play games together like Connect 4, Sequence, Go Fish, and Sorry. We have built MANY forts together...one of your favorite things! We enjoy building train tracks but never really run the train - ha! You love your remote control cars and trucks - you have 3 now. You play with them until the batteries run out. You like your spy gear and Nerf guns. You like to climb trees all the time. You can now get about 1/2 way up the one in the back yard (Oh my word!) You still love electronics like your Leapster, my phone, or an old gaming system we played once - but are less consumed by the idea of them. You are starting to read and are doing great. You have zoomed through the first 8 learning books in the series. You are still shy at times and a little unsure of chaotic situations like "Skills night" at soccer...but you overcame your fear this last time and didn't shed one tear. Good job! You are a beast on the soccer field...you truly get the game and are an awesome defensive player. You love to dance like your mamma. You can throw out some serious moves! You are silly and funny and like to make people laugh. You are also SO tender-hearted - I love how well you do with other kids when they are unfair to you. It amazes me. You take it all in stride. You have begun to ask questions about death and heaven. You understand what Jesus did on the cross and why, but you haven't yet transferred that to your own life. We pray for you each night as we pray during family time. We've seen glimpses of how much you really retain when Jasmine isn't around and you are the only one who can answer. It is surprising and brings joy to me. You are quiet but you get it. You are a MATH Whiz - it comes very naturally to you. You love pizza and root beer. You love ham and mustard sandwiches. You love super heroes, transformers, hot wheels, and legos. You are an amazing little boy and I am so blessed to be your mamma.

Samantha - 18 months!
On March 26th, my baby girl turned 18 months! How time does fly! I cannot believe it has already been a year and 1/2. Sammie has grown and become such a sweet part of our family. I cannot hardly remember life without her. She is such a sweet girl. She dearly loves her Mamma...and I am ok with that. ;) She looks for her bubba each morning and calls for him when she wakes up, because 99% of the time he is the one who is there. She loves to pick Sissy up from school. She says "Sissy" when we pull up in the carpool lane. Then says "Hi Sissy" when we pick Jasmine up. She gets so excited when her Dada comes home from work. She takes off running for him and calling out "Dada! Dada!" It is so cute.
To help me remember what she was like at this age...
She does like 20 animal sounds - my favorite is the gorilla when she beats on her chest
She knows names: Mama or Mommy, Dada or Daddy, Sissy, Bubba, Sully (Suh-wee), Nana, PaDaddy, Mimi, Papa, Ellie (Eh-wee), Evie, Jadyn (Jayen), Joss, Elmo (Eh-mo), Abby (for Abby Cadabby), Presley (Pwes-wee), Caroline (Yay-yine), Cole (Coh), Avery (Ay-wee), Tucker (Tuck-uh), Sara (Say-uh) - oh how she loves Ms. Sara.
She says Puppy, "B" (for her blankie), water (wah-wah), night-night (ny-ny), awww, I love you (I dluh loo), another one (anuya ohn), moon, outside (more like a cuss word - "az-soh"), dog (doh), ball (ba), balloon (ba-yoon), and so many more.
She runs, she can dribble the soccer ball, she can climb the playhouse ladder and slide down, she can almost jump (which I love to watch her try), she can somersault (occasionally the right way), she climbed out of her crib once, she gets up and down /on and off the couch now, she climbs into chairs, she can stand on the stool and reach the running water if she stretches her tooth brush out...it is amazing how in the last few months she is so much a toddler and not a baby now. Of course - she thinks she's 5 and can do everything. :)
She is a trooper. She goes to gymnastics practice once a week, soccer practice 4 nights/week, 3 soccer games/weekend, and church on Sunday mornings and Wed nights. She spends a lot of time in the car on Tuesdays and Thursdays taking brother to and from pre school. I think she will enjoy the fall a little more with out being carted all over town.
She has slept through the night since she was 11 weeks old I think...but she has screamed out at least once a night every single night since she was born. I didn't go in her room, but it would concern me each time. If you cracked the door at all while she was sleeping she would wake up...even be sitting up staring before the door was all the way open. She was the lightest sleeper. Then...suddenly...in the last couple of weeks...she has begun sleeping without screaming out. I can also sneak in and get a pair of socks for Jasmine for school the next day if I forgot at 11:00pm and she stays asleep. What a wonderful thing! It's the little things.
My precious girl brings me lots and lots of "learning patience" moments. She is strong-willed and knows what she wants. She thinks she should have whatever big sister and brother get. It is a lot harder to hide things with 2 much older siblings. She is challenging me and I am continuing to grow as her mamma. Love her dearly and praise God for allowing me to be her mamma. Each time I stand my ground and see improvement in her behavior, I am reminded of how God molds and changes us too.

Austin's 5th Birthday Party!
Austin had his 5th birthday party at Paradise Pond this year. We had so much fun. He chose a "spy party" for his theme this year...after this movie...
We wanted the cover of the movie on the cake, but since it was copyrighted...we improvised. :)

Winter favorites

Riding Scooters
These 2 have loved coming home from school and riding scooters. Austin is still getting the hang of balancing with so much speed...but he's getting braver and better. Jasmine has really mastered flying down the street...she's even tackled the big hill behind our house -- scary!

The little one has discovered dress-up. She puts on every necklace, lei, and hat she can find. Yesterday, she put on her first dress-up dress. It was an old one that was small enough she could wear. It was so cute. She has even put on heels an marched around the house.

Legos!
Legos are slowly but steadily entering our life. I've seen pictures of people's houses with older kids and all their legos...I can only imagine!
Jasmine went to Legoland last year on a Kindergarten field trip. It was really fun. She discovered "Lego Friends" for the first time. These are legos totally tailored for girls. What a great idea! She really took to them quickly. For Christmas, she got a large Stable set. It had hundreds of lego pieces in it. She sat diligently for 3 nights during the break and put the stable and pieces together all by herself...following the instructions.
I was very proud of her hard work! We left it out for a couple of weeks and she made up stories about the girls and their horses.

This year for Christmas we got passes to Legoland. (Yes...WE got passes!) They were having a great special in November! The family went during January. It was Jason's, Austin's, and Sammie's first time to go.
