Just for fun

These Halloween strings were done just for fun. Black centre on a square 10" foundation. I was gifted with quite a few Halloween scraps and thought that some youngster would probably like this. It has been donated to my local outreach group the Scrapbag Quilters. I remember my son years ago being distressed because his class got orange for colour day and "no one has anything orange to wear" His teacher brought orange ties for all the boys. She was a wonderful teacher. Piecefully, Joanne

Scrappy Christmas Strips top assembled

The blocks are finished and the top is assembled. Sometimes a string quilt is just what is needed to provide some sewing time with limited stress. There are 48 blocks in this top and each one is identical. Our Community Outreach group was given these "off cuts" of Christmas scraps and I wondered if they would work. I used a simple red centre and started sewing. Each block was cut at 10" and I used 1/2" seams to sew the blocks together. Piecefully, Joanne

Christmas Strings (either early or late?)

Our community outreach group was given outcuts from a Christmas line of fabric. I have wondered if I could make a string quilt with them and finally got going on them last week. I used a red centre string and then have used the same fabric in the same relative position in each block. I put the first four blocks down on the design floor to see how they would look. I am happy with the outcome. Just 44 blocks to go.  Joanne

Another simple string quilt, lap size

This little lap quilt is approximately 46" square. Odd size but that's what I had. Very light gray strings in the centre and coral and light steel blue prints in the blocks. It will go to my Scrap Bag group for a donation quilt. We can use all sizes. Joanne

Keep those strings coming

We have had an unusually long run of gray days in my part of southern Ontario. We finally had about an hour and a half of bright sun yesterday so I got this picture taken. It is a black centre string quilt with every bit of bright stuff I could find. I hope you have all read the previous post and will join us for a variety of strings in the new year. Smaller scale diamond strings

This is likely my last finish for the year in the strings department. I have one more string quilt sewn together but not yet quilted. This particular quilt is a pink centred green string quilt. Over all size is 27" by 38" so a baby size. The individual foundations that the strings were sewn on were 5" by 7".

A small pink and blue string quilt

This little quilt is approximately 42 inches square. It used up a number of bits and pieces. The blocks were sewn on 6 1/2" foundations. I explained it a little more on my blog. http://quiltsbyjoanne.blogspot.com
