ISS - Undercoated

Time to paint my annual MERCS faction - ISS! While I was priming some Dreadball models, I thought I'd prime a MERCS faction as well, in case the motivation to paint some MERCS took my fancy.

Below are some photos of my 2-step undercoating process. I use the Army Painter White Primer, which is my go-to brand and colour, though I have had great results with their coloured primers as well.

1. Attach the models (without bases) to a stick, using
double-sided sticky-tape
2. Very lighty 'dust' the models with the primer, keeping
the can about 12" away

Infinity Kurage Station and Warsenal Support Structures Part 2

Kurage Station Scenery Pack

After an hour of construction, my Infinity Scenery Pack for Kurage Station was complete, as were the Warsenal Support Structures!

I won't post all of my photos, but for anyone interested you can check out this BeastsOfWar Unboxing video, and for anyone looking for instructions on assembly can check out this BeastsOfWar Terrain Building video for the Neon Lotus Scenery Pack (which uses the same format for the cardboard pieces).

Thoughts

I love the Kurage Station Scenery Pack! There is a great level of detail, the grey colour palette really appeals to me for use with MERCS, and for the price it's a bargain.
This set realises my preference for brightly coloured miniatures set against sombre tabletop terrain - moreso than the Mototronica and Navajo Outpost sets do, and the detailing on the pieces is just phenomenal.
And although it is very lightweight cardboard terrain (and easily knocked around the table), I believe that the aesthetic appeal and the low cost far outweigh the functional limitations of cardboard terrain.

The Warsenal Support Structures are great, and mitigate the drawbacks of the lightweight cardboard terrain very well.
They're easy to assemble, provide excellent structural support, and fit into their cardboard counterparts well.
The exception are the Box Supports which, once inserted to the cardboard boxes, do not allow the boxes to be assembled as intended - but I solved this problem by gluing the cardboard pieces together instead of using the cardboard insert slots.

PVA glue used to close the Service Boxes.
The Service boxes were then left overnight
under compression to seal the bond.

Full battleground pictures coming up soon - stay tuned!

USCR - Undercoated

After Brian Shotton's recent comments in the MegaCon MERCS Community facebook group (found on this post here), I found myself unexpectedly motivated to get my MERCS on.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the future of MERCS - the fact that Megacon are actively thinking about the system is a positive step, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and see where it goes.

So, as I was priming some Deadzone Forge Father models, and thought I might as well prime a MERCS faction as well.
I'll finish painting my Deadzone faction first, and I'll see where my MERCS motivation is after that.

GCC - WIP 2

It's been slow progress painting through the rest of my GCC faction, but here's a quick and dirty photo of the last five models!
The Judge, Tribunal and Heavy models in the back row are my favorite of the faction, so I saved painting them up until last!

I'm planning on finishing the basing this week, and taking individual model photos over the weekend - stay tuned!

GCC - WIP

Over the past week I've been painting through my GCC, so I thought I'd share a WIP progress shot I snapped over the weekend. I'm planning to do the basing for the whole faction in one hobby session once all the models are painted.
Though looking at this photo now, the colour scheme would probably benefit from some additional highlights.

While I get my GCC finished, I'm going to continue throwing up the new photos of my Keizai Waza though, so stay tuned!

GCC - Assembled Part 2

Another hobby blackout due to some ongoing family health issues - but here are the last miniatures that arrived as part of my All Your MERCS Are Belong To Us addon!

I think I actually prefer this Judge model over the variant Judge model, which was an exclusive MERCS Recon Kickstarter bonus, so it'll be hard for me to decide which one to paint.

The Heavy is pretty cool as well, with his Blitzkrieg Twin Assault System not being the standard 'heavy' weapons seen across the other factions.

Booster / Heavy / Spy / Judge

So I now have every MERCS model for every MERCS faction assembled, and ready for paint!
I plan on finishing the factions I received in MERCS Recon first (CCC, EU Inc, KemVar and Keizai Waza) before moving onto another new faction.

EIC - Assembled Part 2

I missed my hobby time over the past few nights busy with other things, but I was finally able to finish off my EIC last night!

It was great to receive the Assimilator, the cornerstone of the EIC faction. His abilites allow him to assimilate technology from killed members of the opposing faction, which is an ability I'll need to look into in much further detail.

The Heavy's Andhi Assault Cannon is another contender for the Most Bad Ass Heavy Weapon too...

FCC House 4 - Assembled Part 2

These FCC House 4 models look bad ass! All of them have a really rugged aesthetic aligned with the FCC background, and the sculpts themselves are great too.

The Sapper, with his Crowd Control Variable Chamber Shotgun, looks like a strong option on the tabletop, with it's variable ammunition giving the unit a range of utility.

And the Heavy's Maelstrom Gatling Gun just looks wicked - I still prefer the CCC Heavy, but this weapon is certainly a contender!

ISS - Assembled Part 2

The Calypso is my favorite sculpt from the ISS, so I'm glad to be able to add her to my MERCS 2.0 collection!

The Demo and Monkeywrench are welcome additions to the ISS roster, and I've got to say I'm pretty keen on getting this faction painted up.

Texico - Assembled Part 2

I'm going to stop going on about how the models I received in my All Your MERCS Are Belong To Us addon are significantly better quality - at this point I'm happy to say that they are consistently a higher standard - but I'll make sure to point out if they aren't.

I'll have to reset the Eagle's footing, as he is on an awkward lean, but that's a pretty simple process once you know how.

The Breacher is an interesting addition to the Texico line up, and I'm keen to see how he looks with some paint!

sefadu - Assembled Part 2

Another round of clean sculpts! There is flash on the models, but it is minimal, and on these models particularly, it was the thin type of flash that flaked off as soon as I looked at it sternly.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Heavy model yet... the tail, used to anchor the troop in place while firing the heavy weapon, looks a little awkward to me.

And the Shock Trooper, like the Berserker and his Twin Blades, is another sefadu model bringing a knife to a gun fight! Though his Ashanti Sword is significantly bigger than your average knife...

FCC House 9 - Assembled Part 2

It was great to finally round off the FCC House 9, which hold a special place in my heart as one of the original four factions released for MERCS.

The Liaison sculpt wasn't as clean at the Shock Trooper and Pack Rat models (which were very good quality), and had a lot of difficult flash around the rubble under the model's left leg.

Still, in my opinion, the models received in this shipment are still a huge improvement on what I received previously. I sincerely hope, for the good of MERCS, that the model quality distributed at retail is this high quality.

USCR - Assembled Part 2

And here are the last three models for the USCR! The quality of sculpts was, again, much better than the models that I assembled in the previous MERCS: Recon shipments - hopefully this level of quality is distributed at retail.

I also received the original sculpt Behemoth, but didn't assemble it, seeing as I have the awesome Kickstarter Exclusive Behemoth!

Assassination Protocol Reinforcements - Assembled Part 2

Continuing with assembly of my All Your MERCS Are Belong To Us, here are the final models from the factions in the MERCS: Recon Assassination Protocol box - KemVar and Keizai Waza!

So far the quality on these models is noticeably better than what I experienced with previous shipments, which has been a nice surprise!

Counter Threat Reinforcements - Assembled Part 2

Sync is back, and I'm in the process of assembling the contents of my All Your MERCS Are Belong To Us package - starting with the CCC and EU Inc.

My goal is to assemble the remaining miniatures from one faction per night, with the exception of CCC, EU Inc, KemVar and Keizai Waza - they only have 2 more models to assemble to round off these factions.
I'll try to find time each day to post all my WIP photos as well!

So, without further ado, here are the last of the CCC and EU Inc models!

GCC - Assembled

And finally, the GCC! This is probably the faction I was looking forward to putting together the most, so I saved them for last - I love the aesthetic, and after putting them together they're at the top of the list to become my 'main' faction.

Here are the GCC models from the Unilateral Mandate MERCS Recon expansion, plus the Sniper, Judge and Spy (which were all Stretch Goal bonuses from the Kickstarter).

EIC - Assembled

EIC are a new faction for MERCS 2.0, and I was pretty keen on getting these guys together. They have a very unique aesthetic, which I think works very well with their theme, and I'm interested to see how the fare on the tabletop.

Here are the EIC models from the Unnamed Assimilation MERCS Recon expansion, plus the Sniper.
