Megan's Read All About Me! Poster

Megan's teacher sent home a poster for her to fill out.  Each week a student gets picked to tell all about themselves.  We colored it together this weekend and filled out all the info about Megan.

This section was Fascinating Facts About Me!  Here is what she wrote:

I am 6 years old.
My birthday is June 20th.

 I live in Yorktown, VA.

I am in this grade: first grade.
My teacher is Mrs. Johnson.

I get to school by the bus.

These are the members of my family: Dad, Mom, Alexis Kailey, Zoey and Harley

When I grow up I would like to be a teacher.

Well, I made the New Years Resolution to blog more... and then life happened!  I know some of you know all this, but I figured I should explain what has been going on with us.  Last May, Tim had emergency surgery to remove a herniated disc in his neck.  Then, in about August I began having symptoms similar to what Tim had experienced (numbness in hands and feet, back pain and headache).  I dismissed it, thinking I must be going crazy because what are the odds that we would both develop neurological problems within a few months of each other.  In September, I finally went to the doctor to see what was wrong with me.  After multiple MRI's and being bounced between doctors, I was diagnosed with Syringomyelia, with Syrinx at 3 different levels in my spinal cord.  The largest Syrinx is located at the same level that Tim's herniated disc was at, which is why we had similar symptoms.  Because I needed to see a Neurologist and Neurosurgeon, and there aren't any at Ft. Polk, we requested a humanitarian move to be somewhere with better medical care.  We also asked to be moved to California, so that we could be close to family for help.  Well, not long after the New Year we finally received orders... to Langley AFB, Virginia!  At first, we were upset that it was the opposite direction of what we asked for, but after thinking about it, we realized that Virginia would be really great for us.  So, instead of blogging... we moved!  So far we are loving it here and I have gone back and added tons of posts of what we have been up to over the past 2 months!  Hopefully, I will get better at blogging, but no promises!  :)

You've Got Mail

So, remember the cute mailboxes the girls got for Valentines Day... well I decorated them with some vinyl and they came out really cute!  Now, the girls leave little messages for each other.  Zoey loves to make cards for her sisters while they are at school.  They all get so excited when they see that they have mail!

Book Character Dress Up

The girls were allowed to dress up as a character from a book today at school.  Fortunately, the girls already had costumes from when the dressed up last fall in Louisiana.  Alexis is Hermione from Harry Potter, and Megan is Pinkalicious, the little girl in the series of books called, Pinkalicious, Purplicious and Goldilicious!  Kailey didn't dress up because she was home sick today.  :(

Megan lost her first tooth!

Yesterday Megan told us she had her first wiggly tooth... and today it came out!  Just like Kailey, she lost it eating pizza!  :)  She is so excited to leave it out for the tooth fairy.

Happy Valentines Day!

When the girls woke up, they found a trail of Hershey kisses leading to their Valentines gifts.  :)

The girls each had the shirt I made them along with a BIG hershey kiss and a mailbox with a Valentine note from Daddy and some Valentine socks.

Daddy made heart shaped pancakes for breakfast.

 I saw this idea for some really cute Valentines on a craft blog.  The girls and I had fun making them!

We made some for Zoey, even though she isn't in school yet.  Since we don't really know anyone here yet, we walked down to the Apartment management office and gave them to the 2 ladies that work there.

 

Alexis is excited to learn cursive here, so I made sure to stitch Love on her shirt in cursive.

Of course we had to do Hearts in their hair!

So, when we got here to VA we tried to get a house on base.  Unfortunately, they don't allow dogs over 100 pounds in base housing (Harley is 120 pounds).  We are pretty mad, considering we have had him for 8 years and at 4 other bases!  Anyway, we have been looking for a place to rent, and we want to be in the York County School district, since it has better schools.  However, most places to rent also have restrictions for big dogs.  Well, we finally found a nice place!  It is in a great location and is only about 5-10 min from the base, the girls school, our church and shopping!  We moved in yesterday, but all of our things won't arrive until Tuesday.  For now we are "camping"  in our new place.  :)  Since I don't have my sewing machine yet, I had to hand sew the girls Valentines shirts.  I love making them clothes, and I really wanted them to have fun shirts for Valentines, especially since they don't wear uniforms to school here.

Back to school

The girls started school today, and so far we LOVE it.  Everyone there is so friendly, and the teachers they have seem wonderful!  I'm really excited for them to be at such a good school!

Snow!!!

The girls were so excited to move somewhere that it snows, even if it isn't that often.  So, they were so excited to get to play in the snow!
