First smiles!

I didn't think that this would be so exciting but it truly is. Scott is teaching me some things about my camera in mini photo lessons, which I love ( I am a true student at heart). Yesterday I was doing my assignment and happened to catch Olive's first smiles in the process. How lucky is that?

It really melts your heart when your baby smiles. Now Scott and I both are on a constant quest to get her to smile. It is like a fun challenge. She has smiled before but only while she was asleep. It always makes me wonder what she could be dreaming about. What must baby's dreams be like? I wish I had one of those machines like they invented on the Simpsons that could read baby thoughts. I often wonder what she is thinking, like when she just stares at the blank wall and seems happy about it. I'm so glad my life has been reduced to these small milestones that feel larger than life.

How time can move both fast and slow amazes me!

It seems like forever ago that we were going to the hospital to have Olive, yet she is still so little and new.
It has been one crazy month which is why I think it feels like much longer than that. So much has happened. It is hilarious to me how fast get over being pooped/peed/barfed on. Or how bodily functions are not just a topic of conversation, but of high interest. Olive has had serious constipation, exploding diarreha, projectile vomit, jaundice, a severe diaper rash, and was screaming while trying to poop. We finally found out that these things (except the jaundice) were a result of a milk allergy. Poor little thing. Once we got her diagnosed and on the right formula she is doing much better. I am missing drinking milk, and her formula is SUPER expensive, but at least we have a happy baby.

I have had a bit of a rough month as well. I had blocked milk ducts in each breast that got infected, not just once but, TWICE! It is ultra frustrating because I am trying to do everything possible to not get blocked ducts. I am feeling much better now, but realized that I basically have been sick all month. Thank heaven for antibiotics! I tell myself that we got all the hard things over in the first month so it will be smooth sailing from now on.

Even with all the struggle and sickness, Olive is such a sweet girl. She is either asleep or just happy and content. She often has big eyes to look around and stare at us. We are so excited that she is growing up, although I do love how little she is. Our lives feel completely different and totally normal at the same time. I am happy it has been such a good and easy transition into parenthood.

Two Weeks Old

These are pictures of Olive at 2 weeks. I would have posted them awhile ago, but "somebody" forgot to bring them home from work.

Rrrruffles have Rrrridges

I think that ruffles on the bum are the absolute most darling thing. They are my weakness. If there is something that has ruffles on the bum, I must buy it. I like how they make the bum look so big! These pants are still too big, but I make Olive wear them because of the ruffles. I even found some tights that have lacy ruffles on them. Don't worry I was sure to buy them! My mom crocheted a cute outfit for Olive and I asked her to add ruffles for me. I can't wait until Olive is crawling and sticks those ruffles in the air. Or even better, when she is waddling around learning how to walk. Ruffles for life!

She doesn't quite like tummy time yet but she is getting stronger. I think she gets frustrated that I keep calling her name and she can't see me. She can lift her head about 45 degrees so she is making progress.

I don't know if you can tell but she is definately getting some chunky chubbers! She gained 2 pounds in one week!

Girly Time

I have learned important things about hair bows.
#1) They are adorable!
#2) They are necessary
I recently made the mistake of dressing my baby girl in a blue outfit at a family funeral. I thoroughly confused everyone. The guests didn't know whether to congratulate me on my "handsome boy" from her blue onesie or on my "darling girl" from her pink blanket. Since her little bow had fallen out it made things more impossible to tell her gender. You could tell that those who had mistook her as a manly baby were embarassed. Being her mom, she looks so feminine to me, but I will have to be more obvious from now on. I never wanted the frills of the princess look (all decked out in pink and lace) for my little one. Most things that we have are borrowed from little boys or pretty neutral in gender. The androginy is over. I am putting a giant, flowery, bright pink bow on Ollie every time we leave the house. Then dress her is all blue!

Olive's Nursery

We stenciled these so she could have some artwork. Not just any art, only the SMP originals for our little one.

I put up my doll collection. It is better than being packed away in a box in the basement.

I thought you might like to see what our nursery turned out like. People are always asking me about the nursery, so I might as well show you.

I really loved the cute birds on this bedding and I just had to have it. We were lucky in that we were able to borrow a lot of the furniture for her room from different family members. It is simple, but I like how it turned out.

One Week Down!

I have a little bit of free time on my hands right now seeing as my baby sleeps all the time. I am not complaining. She is super awesome when it comes to sleeping. She takes after me. I always said one of my greatest talents was to sleep anywhere, anytime. And I hope she keeps it up. Fortunately for these pictures she was awake!
