9 Months

9 months!
Cutest little face!

Milestones

  • Baby H really likes standing (with help) and is getting pretty good at it.
  • He's added some new sounds to his babbling: da, ba, wha, boo
  • Easter! The Easter Bunny brought him a stuff toy frog and some treats.
  • At his 9 month check up, our pediatrician said he had really good transfer skills, meaning passing things back and forth between his left and right hands.
  • Stats from his 6 month appointment:
    • Length - 25 inches  (below .02 percentile, meaning he is pretty much off the charts.)
    • Weight - 15 lbs 4 oz (.97 percentile)
    • Head Circumference - 17.5 inches (31.12 percentile)
    • So he's pretty much the littlest baby of them all, for his age.

Likes

  • Mangoes, Apples, Peaches, Blueberries (mixed with bananas or apples), Cereal, Squash (sometimes) and Avocados (sometimes)
  • When we clap our hands. He likes to grab both of my pinkies and make my hands clap together.
  • Turning the pages in his books as fast as he can. Speed reading takes new meaning with him.
  • Taking our glasses off in the morning or grabbing Danny's hat.
  • One of his favorite games is when I lay him down on the bed or floor and I wave a blanket or towel over him and he tries to catch it. Lots of giggling ensues.
  • Another game he likes is when he's sitting on the floor, I'll roll his toy car to him and he will kick it back to me. We might have a soccer player on our hands.
  • His favorite toys are his toy monkey and empty water bottles.
  • Taking off his socks.

Dislikes

  • Pears, Peas (moved from the likes list, he changed his mind) and pretty much all Veggie Mixes. (He must have Danny's taste palate.)
  • When I wipe off his face and hands after meals.
  • All things that have to do with sleep. (This one is such a given.)
  • Having his socks put back on.

Tidbits

  • When he wants something, he waves his little hands like he is conducting an orchestra. It is quite cute.
  • He went to the Tulip Festival with his mommy and grandma and his favorite part was sitting in the grass and pulling at it.
  • He likes to see everything going on. He isn't as happy to sit in his car seat or stroller like he used to. He is such an observant baby.
  • He experienced jumping on the trampoline for the first time. I held him and bounced up and down a little bit. He thought it was a lot of fun.
  • He will rest his head on my shoulder when he first wakes up or when he is tired, but other than that, he is pushing me away so he can see what's going on around him. He isn't the cuddliest baby, but I'll take what I can get.
  • He has been finding his voice a lot this month and likes to scream! Happy screams, sad screams, mad screams, so much screaming. While he is really noisy around me and Danny, he will go quiet when other people are around.
  • I've been trying to teach him simple signs for "more" "all done" "eat" "sleep" and so forth. He stares at me so intently, like he is trying to figure it out, but he hasn't signed back yet.
  • He's going through a scared phase. Things he used to find interesting, like the vacuum, his ear thermometer, or other people, now really upset him. He gets really upset when his mommy isn't within view.
Outtakes

These photo shoots are getting a little more difficult, because he just wants to
play with his lion...
Or happily take off his socks...
But he sure is a lot of fun!

Oh Crafty Trees, Oh Crafty Trees...

I've become a finals widow, if you will, meaning Danny is crazy busy trying to finish up the semester.  This has given me extra time to use my crafty skills to get our place Christmas ready.  My first creations were these little paper/foam trees.  I've seen a few variations online of this craft. I put my own little twist on it.  They are really easy to make, just takes some time. Here is what you need: Scrap paper Hot glue gun 1" Circle punch Foam cone (at most craft stores) Toothpicks Note:  You are going to go to the craft store to buy the little foam cone and you will see styrofoam glue and you will think to yourself that would be a good thing to buy for this project.  Don't!  I got the styrofoam glue and it didn't work at all.  Just go with your trusty glue gun, it won't let you down. I think it's pretty self-explanatory by looking at the picture.  You just punch circles out from the scrap paper.  Then hot glue th...

Things that brought me joy this week

This past week was Melina's birthday!  Since she lives far away, Talena and I put together a hula party in a box and mailed it to her.  We found all of these treasures at the dollar section at the front of Target.  My favorite moment was when we heard a lady gripe about how the discount section was full of a bunch of useless stuff that no one would buy.  At that very moment we turned the corner, with our hand basket full of awesome stuff we had found.  We just smiled. The party supplies The party agenda I was having a bit of a low evening and Danny suggested we go get my latest craving Sonic blasts.   (Ice cream + candy + whipped cream.)  I know you aren't supposed to feed sorrows with food, but this particular evening I made an exception.  Whoever made that Sonic blast was heaven sent.  It had more Reese's peanut butter cups than actual ice cream.  It's like they sensed my heavy heart and tried to heal it with choc...

Hello Sunshine

I've had the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. It is a program that is supposed to connect you to your inner creativity. It may sound a little out there, but sometimes I try out there stuff. So after reading the first chapter, I thought, why not? Creative endeavors always feed my soul and as of late, my soul needs some feeding. Part of the program is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. Dating myself to connect to my inner creativity? Younger versions of myself may have laughed at this, but the mom version of myself is excited about the idea of time alone .  In pure defiance of the snow I have seen almost daily for months, for my first artist date, I decided to get a pedicure. I mostly was there for the foot massage, but I figured if I make my toes sandal ready, then surely the weather will take the hint and spring will start making its appearance. (I know, I know, we need the snow, we are in a drought. All the lakes a d...
