tears of joy...

i remember making fun of my mom just once...she was driving me to Webb Middle School in the 7th or 8th grade and for whatever reason The Wedding March was playing on the radio. i was shocked, bewildered and even laughed at her when she started crying. it was just a song on the radio, i said.

that was the last time i made fun of her, because shortly thereafter i became that emotional female that cries at everything.

kid you not, i'll cry at music on the radio, commercials on tv, children's dance recitals, cards at hallmark, military air shows, just about anything that sparks a memory. oh and getting through a national anthem...forget it!!

combine my normal emotional state with all of the hormones of pregnancy and you can only imagine my response when i heard this new george strait song, "I Saw God Today" on the radio the other day.

boy or girl...

Because we aren’t planning to find out the gender of the baby, I thought I’d apply some old wives tales to my 1st trimester experiences to see if we could get any insight…

No morning sickness…Boy!
Prefer sleeping on right side...Girl!
Feeling very clumsy…Boy!
Baby's heart rate is 140 bpm +…Girl!
Experiencing headaches…Boy!
Chest development has been quite dramatic…Girl!
Carrying the weight out front…Boy!
Craving fruits…Girl!
Dad-to-be is gaining weight with Mom-to-be…Boy!
Chinese conception chart…Girl!

Appears to be a tough call, guess we’ll have to wait six more months…

fun in the sun...

the week of the daytona 500 race is officially known as "Speedweek" for most floridians (and crazy nascar fans). it was certainly that for us and our jam-packed vacation in sunny florida.

we had a very early flight friday morning, so we didn't waste a travel day. after checking into the hotel, we headed for daytona beach. i think that was the most relaxing day of the whole trip. at one point, we were sitting in the car by the water with the windows down, listening to the waves crash...ahhhh, LOVE IT. then for dinner, we met ali and coy at this restaurant on the bay, sat outside, ate fresh seafood and listened to live music....ahhhh, LOVE IT.

saturday and monday were designated for the disney parks. we managed to ride and see everything we wanted to at the magic kingdom, epcot, animal kingdom and hollywood studios in appx 24 hours. lots o' walking! let me just say, disney without kids is exhausting (and expensive). i think we should start saving now for our trip back with kid(s).

sunday was race day and another early morning. we got to our $40 parking spot across from the speedway at appx 6:15am (ps. the race didn't start until 3:30pm). with our fan zone passes, we got to walk around the track (at its 18 degree banking), sign our names on the start/finish line and tour all of the pits, garages and the inspection stations. although dale jr didn't win the race, it was certainly an exciting one to see live.

the weather was absolutely incredible. with the exception of two 15 minute rain showers on monday afternoon, it was mid 70s and party cloudy the whole time. we couldn't have asked for better weather.

MANY THANKS to joshie for getting our tickets (and chris for house sitting). the daytona 500 was on our list of "must do" trips and now we can check it off. what's next?

not sure, i'm still trying to catch up on my sleep....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

happy heart day...

growing up, i was a huge fan of the "love is..." cartoons created by kim casali. i don't think it runs in the dallas newspaper anymore, but i did recently find their online daily posting. i thought today was an appropriate day to share.

hope you have a wonderful day, love ya...

team hendrick...

josh and i are headed to florida on friday for a long weekend/mini-vacation. we're planning to spend a few days at disney world, one at the beach and the other at the 50th anniversary of the DAYTONA 500. this is how i'm envisioning the race finish...

busy week, low key weekend...

after braving temperatures in the low 20s and 5" of snow in kansas city, it was GREAT to be back in big D for a beautiful sunny Spring-like weekend. on saturday, we went to lunch with the fam, shopped a little at IKEA and then watched dale jr win the budweiser shootout...YEAH!! we took deacon for a walk on sunday, between several afternoon naps. baby is definitely zapping my energy. we're back to the grind tomorrow, but have a big vacation coming this weekend. have a good week...

service with a sprite...

i arrived safe and sound in cold kansas city on friday morning for our semi-annual sony/sam's club business event. pregnant or not, being away from josh and home for five nights isn't something i look forward to -- especially since this trip is over the weekend (super bowl wkd at that). well, day 1 in kansas city is over and i experienced exceptional customer service at the hilton president hotel in downtown kansas city, so i thought i'd share.

a little background -- for a few weeks i've been waking up at 3:30am every night with a little uneasiness in the belly. sprite and a slice of bread has been the miracle cure. nausia goes away and i'm back to sleep. so as i'm packing up, i grabbed a bag of pretzels (as a substiture for the bread) and thought surely i'll be able to pick up some sprite once i get there.

challenge: find a sprite

option 1) the hotel's (not-so) convenient store was actually closed when i got back from dinner last night

hmmm...i decided to wait it out and went to sleep. of course, like an alarm clock, i awoke at 3:23am with the same nausious feeling.

option 2) ah, room service -- come to find out, their service ends at midnight, so not an option

option 3) there has to be a soda machine around here somewhere, right? before i head down the hall in my victoria secret houndstooth thermal pajamas, i called the front desk to locate the closest machine. okay, "one on every floor just past the elevator." here i go...

and then the telephone rings -- it's the front desk. "sorry ma'am, you're on the 1st floor and it actually does NOT have a machine. you'll have to go up to the THIRD floor to find the closest machine."

you've got to be kidding me.

then, the oh-so-kind front desk guy says, "actually, my security guard will come get your change and get the sode for you." OMG, now that is customer service!! so a few minutes later, knock knock... i open the door and the security guard is standing there with an assortment of free bottled sodas and asks, "what kind would you like?" he had two sprites and a bottle opener and i was in heaven. and shortly thereafter back to sleepzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

i'll be sure to pick up some extra sprites today, while their store is open :)

go patriots!!!
