Implementation of consensus infobox changes for current seasons

[edit]

At Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)/Archive_172#Designating_current_seasons_in_infoboxes, I read clear consensus to use text rather than images to designate the current season. I went ahead and made the change at {{Infobox award}}, but since I'm not a sports person, I'll leave the implementation for sports templates such as {{Infobox football league}} to you all here. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 21:35, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've added a DNAU tag to this thread; feel free to remove it once you have finished implementation. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 20:49, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

World Athletics Championships has an RfC

[edit]

World Athletics Championships, which is within the scope of this WikiProject, has an RfC for the merging of all derivative articles into singular namespaces for each nation in competition. A discussion is taking place. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments on the discussion page. Thank you.

CSGinger14 (talk) 21:51, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey folks. This has been up for about a month and a half now and has gotten I think 6 respondents in total. It's set for closure fairly soon, so any engagement is appreciated. The topic is whether we want to merge all the articles for competitions by country by year (e.g. Mali at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, Mali at the 2013 championships, etc.) into one singular article on competitions by country (e.g. Mali at the World Athletics Championships). Pages for particular competitions could otherwise be branched out on a case-by-case basis when necessary. All input/commentary is welcome.
Best,

New editor working on swimmers

[edit]

Hi, project members. I've come across a new editor, SportsfanUK, who's interested in creating articles about English swimmers from the 1960s. He or she is struggling because coverage isn't online, though some of these people may be notable. I don't know enough about sports to give much advice, so posting here in case one of you wants to make contact with the editor. Thanks, Tacyarg (talk) 20:49, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

New user using advanced techniques on sports articles

[edit]

Brand new user Tete Pul (talk · contribs) is using advanced transclusion techniques such as WP:Labeled section transclusion in sports articles, for example in this edit adding 6kb to 3x3 basketball at the 2026 Asian Games – Men's tournament. LST is an advanced technique (which I am familiar with and can explain if needed) but is highly atypical in a user's third career edit. Requesting project members watch and comment as needed. I also have LLM concerns. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 08:49, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

oh is it like not allowed..? I'm aware with some of these techniques since I used to edit on other wiki site from 2021.
anyways in that case I'll request to the project members, noted Tete Pul (talk) 09:12, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Tete Pul, it is allowed. Which wiki site did you use to edit, and did you use a different login? Because you only have six edits on this account (seven, as of your 09:12 comment). As far as the LST—are you planning to transclude the content from another article or articles? Which one(s)? Mathglot (talk) 09:17, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
i used to edit in Namuwiki, and this is my first account to login in Wikipedia. About transclusion, yes I'd like to do one day, but not now Tete Pul (talk) 09:24, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Tete Pul, so can you please explain why you added numerous labeled sections to 3x3 basketball at the 2026 Asian Games – Men's tournament, as if you were going to excerpt those sections in other articles? If you have no plans to do that, then those labeled sections should be removed. Do you have any objection to their being removed? Mathglot (talk) 09:30, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Based on the Asian Games article, there was a schedule for 3x3 basketball both men's and women's. I just translated from Japanese, then transcluded.

Tete Pul, if you are translating from other Wikipedias, that is allowed (even encouraged), but if you are translating from an external source, which may well be under copyright protection, that is forbidden and may have to be undone and have the page history sanitized. Do you know the copyright status of the original page you translated from? Also, what is your level of Japanese? Are you a native speaker? Mathglot (talk) 09:59, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I can understand basic Japanese, and all ㅑ needed was just reading those countries written in katakana Tete Pul (talk) 10:03, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
All I* Tete Pul (talk) 10:03, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I can answer this. These are generally transcluded on the nation at 2026 Asian Games articles. You can see some of the transclusions (from other sports) here Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 21:45, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Tete Pul, to my question above regarding labeled section transclusion, you said in part:

About transclusion, yes I'd like to do one day, but not now

If you have no plans to transclude portions of the article 3x3 basketball at the 2026 Asian Games – Men's tournament into other articles by their labeled sections, those labels should be removed. That will not remove any content visible to a reader, just the section labels. Do you have any objection to those labels being removed? Mathglot (talk) 19:52, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
