Controllers with Steam Link using Linux host
What wireless controllers are known to work with Steam Link when the Steam gaming host is running Linux? I've been having trouble with several controllers (8bitdo SF30 Pro, 8bitdo Pro 2, and Steelseries Stratus Duo). None of these work *IN GAME* from my Raspberry pi, Chromebook, or Samsung TV when connected via Steam Link using a Linux host. When using a Windows host, all the controllers work fine. Additionally, these controllers also work directly on the Linux host, when not using Steam Link. With Steam Link however, they only control the menus, not the games. Some Steam client updates have made certain games work and then they stop working again after a later update. So it's definitely a Steam compatibility issue.

So I'm curious what controllers DO work with Steam Link and Linux. Anyone?

Does Steam Link now work with a Linux host? I thought only Windows could be the host.

With a keyboard and mouse on the client, it works perfectly fine. It has also worked with some controllers and then stopped working again, which is the reason for my post.
I've had good results with Dual Shock controllers, just to make sure, though, it would be best if you checked if you do have the steam devices udev rules installed. Often times, lack of proper perms is the root issue with Steam and controllers. I'd suggest you to perform a search on your drive akin to this:
find / -iname *steam*rules

You should at least have two files:
60-steam-input.rules 60-steam-vr.rules

When either of my machines (latpop or main rig) is the host, both running Linux, I can use my DS4 controller from my Android devices just fine, (with the expected input lag, of course), and I am able to stream games from my main rig to my laptop equally fine.

Which distribution do you use on the host?

YES, that was what I was missing! For some reason I did not have the input rules files installed, even though I'm pretty sure I previously installed the steam-devices package (I'm using Linux Mint 20.3, which is based on Ubuntu 20.04).

So to anyone else with this problem, the way I fixed it was I installed the steam-devices package (via apt, standard ubuntu/mint repositories), and then I also copied over the relevant rules files I found at this link https://gitlab.com/fabiscafe/game-devices-udev/-/tree/main to /lib/udev/rules.d, and that fixed it. Both my 8bitdo and Steelseries controllers are both working with the several games I have tested.

Thanks for your help, thetargos!
