SteamLink VR artifacts issue.
Hello,

I've got some serious issues with streaming VR games to my Quest 3.
For some reason I'm getting the artifacting issue slowly spreading over textures until I look away (guess it updates pixels in that area)
The issue is different in each eye, and on the screen of my computer it's not visible.
It's some kind of white noise with horizontal lines, looking like streaming issues.

I have met this issue before, using Pico 4 and Virtual Desktop, when I used HEVC codec for streaming content onto my headset. I solved that issue by using H.264 instead, apparently those CODEC doesn't causes any issues to me.

I have an NVIDIA RTX 4070TI Super from Gigabyte, and i7-10700K
There is nothing similar ever happen anywhere in other games or apps.

I need any possible help, seems this issue is very rare, but it totally ruins my PCVR experience!

Is this on a laptop or desktop? And do you know which NVIDIA driver version you are on?

Hello, I'm using desktop custom built PC, I've had this issue for a while and updated many drivers since, also tried to do clean driver install. Right now I'm on version 552.22 the latest NVIDIA driver dated 04.16.24.

I have changed the headset to another one since posting here, also Quest 3. Issue is surely not related to headset itself. I went further and bought Virtual Desktop, the app for remote gaming, though it allows choosing the streaming CODEC manually.
With more testing I found that issue happens only with HEVC, when I use either H.264 or AV1 everything is fine.

If you need more information please let me know!
I wanted to say we appreciate the added info. I am recording this in our main issue tracker, but I do not have any time frame for when issues like these could be addressed. I am glad you have a work-around to still play VR!

Going to dig up this older issue because it exactly describes my current situation.
White artifacts are slowly covering textures and are cleared when looking away and back, for some reason in some games more than others but I feel like it's more related to how much you are looking around and moving for the issue to become clear. For example in the intro section of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice VR you are sitting stationary in a boat and mostly looking forwards and it happens intensely during this 5 minute intro forcing me to constantly move my head around to get rid of the artifacts.

Using Steam Link on a Quest 3, NVIDIA driver 560.94, RTX3060.

I'm afraid that issue solutions didn't developed any further due to lack of people experiencing this issue and technical difficulties for support teams to reproduce it without a GPU that has this issue. I haven't found any possible solution to fix it other than using AV1 codec, in your case I'm afraid it's not possible due to RTX 3xxx. I'm pretty sure that's some issue deep in the GPU kernel, probably in the micro-code or something like that.
I switched completely to Virtual Desktop (20$ on Oculus store), which I suggest to you as well, make sure to set it to use h.264 codec or AV1 (but don't think it will work on older GPUs). Unfortunately I know no other way to actually fix it.

About issue nature: I'm pretty sure the issue is caused by the compression algorithm and caching of HEVC, therefore when you look away it refreshes and artefacts are gone until you wait a bit for those to gather again.
alright, so I have as well some apparently HVEC artifact where after few seconds I start to see RGB colors just intensify, but it happens only quest 3s display, on my monitor there's no issue and on quest alone there's no issue either, only PCVR. someone had same issue as me talking about H.264 but I dont think that has been resolved

This Image is from reddit post I cant find but It's the same issue I have:
