Controllers not working in games
Hello,

All of my controllers seem to stop working whenever I launch a game on my Steam Link. They work fine in the Steam Link menu, they work fine in the Big Picture menu and I can still bring up the Steam Link quick access menu by holding down the select button while in game, but I can't actually control the games themselves. I've tried launching Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Monster Hunter Rise and all of them have this same issue. I can control them just fine when I walk over to my computer and use the controller hooked up to it via USB, but the controller connected to my Steam Link via Bluetooth does nothing.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I assume it is some arcane and poorly worded setting buried deep in the Steam menus that I have to toggle or something.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to have been a Flatpak issue, it works just fine with Steam installed through APT instead. I guess the sandboxing somehow breaks Steam Input's access to whatever game is running? A bit annoying as I do like the sandboxing but this'll do for now I guess, hopefully the flatpak can be fixed in the future.

Could possibly be the same issue as here? https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11439

This should work. What OS is your computer running?

Debian 13 (Trixie) with Steam installed as flatpak (1.0.0.85). My Steam Link is running beta build 923.
Ah, many games have an issue picking up streaming controllers on Linux. Do you happen to have a controller connected locally? I wonder if maybe they're focused on that one rather than the virtual controller that is created for streaming?

I tried doing a fresh boot of my PC with my USB controller plugged out. With Steam Input for Xbox controllers turned off, the controller I use over bluetooth with my Steam Link is registering as a keyboard and mouse in game with a completely scrambled and nonsensical controller layout. With Steam Input for Xbox controllers turned on, it is not registering at all like before. The selected controller layout was the default recommended one for Final Fantasy VII Remake.
I managed to find a game that actually works: Gunfire Reborn. I have no idea why though.
A Valve employee has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
