Steam Link

Steam Link

Controller position repeatedly dropping to my sides
Through several versions of Steam Link, Steam VR, and VRChat on my Quest 3, I have had an issue with my controllers seemingly at random dropping to my sides for a split second, software acting as if they briefly disconnected but with no sign of them actually disconnecting. It only happens when I use Steam Link to connect. It's been an issue through several versions of all listed software. I have verified integrity of all listed software, uninstalled and reinstalled all software (including the app on the headset), and factory reset the headset. The issue persists. Any ideas what is causing this or what could fix it? Sure, things work fine if I use Virtual Desktop or Quest Link, but those have their own issues and I would rather use Steam Link.

FWIW, you'll probably find more help on the SteamVR forums.

Steam Link on the Quest is actually two pieces of software glued together. One is Steam Link, the normal flatscreen streaming software (which also can be used on Android phones/tablets, iOS, Apple TV, etc.) which these discussion forums usually deal with, and the other is VRLink (which is part of SteamVR, and handles streaming PCVR to standalone headsets).

Unsurprisingly, the SteamVR team in general pays more attention to that forum than this one.

Now, that said, I actually work on both. So I'll take off my Steam Link hat and put on my SteamVR hat for a moment, and note that whatever is happening on the host side is likely to be logged in the "driver_vrlink.txt" file in your Steam logs directory. (On Windows, by default that's in a "logs" directory in your Steam install.)

I would definitely look in that logfile as the first step, as it may give useful information to take over to the SteamVR forums.

Also, next time this happens to you, it might also be worth doing a system report in Steam; that'll bundle up logs and other data to send in to the support site, which means you will have all that information there already waiting for anyone over here trying to help out.

Hopefully that helps as a first step, at least.
