Steam Link

Steam Link

Link Hardware, Resolutions not changing:
So I use a steam link to stream from my 1440 pc to my 1080 TV.
In the past this would set my pc resolution to 1080 while streaming, but it has stopped doing this.
Does anyone know why that is?
Having to manually change resolutions every time is getting tedious. Thanks!!

Did you accidentally change the setting on the host side from "match the client" to something else? That's the first thing I can think of.
does the host display support 1080p?
check the gpu control panel, if its not listed, create the 1920x1080p60 res so steam can change the host to it
and also enable gpu scaling so the host will display something when at the unsupported res

also double check
steam -> settings -> remote play -> advanced host options -> change desktop res to match client = ticked
OP, I am crawling up the wall with the same issue. It must be on Steam's side, because my ultrawide monitor wouldn't conform to the 1080p resolution anymore either. I will probably create a ticket with Support.

This feature is outdated - you have to select the streaming display resolution from the dropdown menu.

that would be client settings,
you need to enable the res change on host

Not anymore. The options in the Remote Play menu have changed, and now there is no explicit setting to change desktop resolution to match host.

Here[imgur.com] are all the available host options in Remote Play.

Match Client should be doing this. I'll double check.

Hmm, it's working here. Can you post a screenshot of the Remote Play advanced host settings on your PC?

Sorry for the delay, but I may have found a workaround that took care of the letterboxing.

What ended up working for me was running a 1920x1080p virtual display driver, setting it as the preferred display in the Display tab and unchecking "Start Big Picture more Windowed". That way you won't have to worry about changing the aspect ratio, and the black bars are gone, but I wonder if there's something more intuitive that I'm missing...
id bet that display does not list 1920x1080p60 in its edid list

try plugging it into a pc and see what resolutions/refresh are listed
in gpu control panel or windows display res settings
I'm having almost the same issue, only on my 4K TV. The host monitor is an ultrawide 49" display. It does not matter what client or host settings I change. The host resolution will not change. Only changing the host-side windowed mode will scale Big Picture correctly. But then the rendering is a little blurry.

This might be an unrelated question, but what graphics card do you have?

using gpu control panel, create the non native res 3840x2160@60hz and enable gpu scaling

I'm sorry everyone who replied so far, I wasn't getting notifications about this. My bad.

I'll go boot up the steam link right now and see if it scales rez down to 1080 for my TV
Update: it seems like it works again
I swear to god it wasn't working for a while
Don't worry, I can corroborate that. That's great news though! I'll have to check my situation today as well
