Steam Link

Steam Link

Link Hardware doesn't turn on. Can it be fixed?
When I plug my model 1003 Steam Link in, there is no activity. No HDMI output and the ethernet port doesn't light up.

I tested the power supply with a multimeter and it delivers the required 5.1 volts. However, the Link draws less than 1 watts as measured by a kill-a-watt.

I opened the case and it gets ~5.1 watts at the power port but nowhere else.

Is there any way to fix this?

its network port will only light up when its plugged into another device, router/switch/modem

when you unplug power and plug it in again, it should power on and show the link boot screen

to force a factory reset
unplug power, hdmi, network and all usb devices, wait 5 seconds
plug in power, wait 5 seconds
unplug power, wait 5 seconds
plug in power, wait 5 seconds
unplug power, wait 5 seconds
plug in power, and hdmi, wait for it to fully reboot, if unsure wait 30 more minutes
then plug in network and other usb devices
then reboot to update it again

Thanks! I did your factory reset steps and it didn't work unfortunately.

How many watts does yours use at startup? Based on the power supply it should be around 12 watts max, but I can't tell what typical energy usage should be.
it gets a little warm after idling when on, not sure, it might use 5w or so, because it also has to power its usb ports for other devices

when its on, and plugged into the router, can you log into the router to see connected devices, and try pinging the links lan ip from a host pc?
