Help! TV Steam Link app extremely poor connection wired
I'm running the following setup:
Win 11; Ryzen 5 9600; Radeon 9070XT hard wired to a TP-Link TL-SG1024, 24 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch connected to ISP provided modem with GB service. I get near GB transfer on this PC to internet.

I have a Sony Bravia 4KVH21 using a TP-Link USB to Ethernet Adapter (UE300) set in developer mode to use usb as internet. I have no issues streaming on this TV for movies/shows. This TV is hard wired to the same TP-Link switch.

Every time I load the TV steam link app, I get a red connection symbol in the lower right corner and an extreme amount of input lag. I have tried manipulating host and client settings but have had no luck. My laptop will wirelessly stream to the Steam link with low network latency turned on much better than my pc.

I can't figure this out. Looking for community help, please.

why are you using usb nic adapter?
usb is junk and will be nowhere near even its 'fast' 100mb/s lan port

its wired lan port is only 100mb/s which is fine for 1080p and not enough for 4k
limit the streaming res to 1080p

if the tv supports wifi, that may be better than its lan port
n can go to 140mb/s if not far from the router/ap and 5ghz channels are not congested

also make sure remote play is not using internet relays
1. make sure windows network is set to private not public
2. disable any vpn
3. if using wifi, check router/ap settings and disable wifi isolation
4. steam -> settings -> remote play -> allow direct = all/auto/my not disabled
Thanks! I will try all of that and re-post back how it went.

FWIW.. I chose to use the adapter because of how many times I've seen that recommended as the issue. I had this issue prior to switching when using the TV ethernet port. The usb did bump up my connection "test" speed but did nothing to improve the actual use.
also see if you can ping the tv lan ip from the host pc
both should have a similar ip, 192.168.same.different
Sorry for the delay.

- Windows network private. Steam can communicate both public and private through firewall. No VPN in use.
- 1ms ping for hardwired connection.
- Allow direct verified to be on auto

I have messed around with host/client settings and got some improvement. I was having issues getting the overlay to show up and cannot take a screenshot on my TV. I'm currently running default on all host with hardware encoding enabled. On client I limited framerate to 60 fps and am set at automatic 1080p resolution. Hardware decoding, HEVC, AV1 all disabled. Low latency enabled.

On overlay for streaming latency I get 1 ms input, but about 180 to 230ms display
Ping time shows 1 ms (direct).
Packet loss shows 0% but also (75.32% frame loss)
Quick update. I unpaired and re-paired my steam link based on a post I found on reddit. I dropped down to 6ms display latency from 230ms just in big picture mode. About 15 seconds of game I jumped back up to 300ms display latency.

One more update. I think I solved it. The settings for remote play at the host are independent of the same settings in steam link. So, changing something in remote play does not copy over to steam link settings.

I saw almost no difference whether low latency was on or off. But for my TV, I cannot have any decoding option selected.
if ping is over 100ms, then using steams remote play internet relays

something is blocking it from lan direct connections

check that both lan ip are similar 192.168.same.different
if not then they are on different subnets and will force to use internet relays

make sure you can ping the local ip of the client from the host, will be <5ms on wifi or <1ms on lan
