Chromecast crashing when starting remote session
Trying to run steam link via my chromecast, and any time I launch the session the chromecast is hard resetting, it had no problem running the streaming test, and the network connection was all good for that.

Running steam link on my phone works fine.

Anyone else come across this issue and know of a fix?

Hi,
I've also recently had this problem. From what I can tell it happens since (and likely because) the chromecast (wit google TV) just got an update to Android 14 by google.

I haven't found a fix so far but would be very interested in one as well.
Hi, I just got the same issue. Chromecast (with Google TV) restarts a moment after it connects to steaming. I tried to lower my streaming parameters from 4K to just FullHD, but didn't help. It was working without any issues last week.
I tried to fiddle with the settings and disabling HEVC video solved the issue for me and I can play again. I kept all other options as they were. Just this one is the culprit here.
I am having the same issue on Chromecast (with Google TV), it was wokring a couple of days ago, now hard resets during the startup movie.
edit:
Turning off HEVC on the chromecast steam link app fixed this.

Thanks, trying for the first time, this fixed it for me!
Turning off HVEC gets it to work for me but now have terrible artifacts in the game which for me makes it unplayable

I have this exact issue as well.
Same issue here. Tried the HEVC and also forcing the format on the Chromecast but still creating. Anyone found a solution

Likewise, I've tried to fix it following the advice above yet I still run into the same issue of crashing at the loading Steam symbol and sometimes I get to the Steam library screen for it to crash 3sec later (Cursor movement is non-existent during the 3sec).

I have a hunch it's just the application's flaw - nothing to do network-wise, PC-wise or settings-wise.
Got it working by going into Steam Link Settings Gear icon, and turning hardware decoding off.

that didn't help for me.
Persistent issue for me I can bypass by turning hardware decoding off. However, I also noticed that I don't have any audio in the app either (not just while streaming - I don't have any menu audio while connecting to my PC either). Rebooting my Chromecast temporarily enables audio again, but I noticed both issues started happening at around the same time, which to me means an update broke things along the way.
i have a "chromecast with google tv / 4k" (the old one) ... i was playing around with this recently and i found that (using the steam link app from the android store):

"hardware decoding: enabled"
"HEVC Video: disabled"
"AV1 Video: disabled"

worked for me.

I tried to put the streaming resolution above 1080p 60hz and it seemed to have weird artifacts at times.

at 1080p 60hz with these settings, it actually worked pretty well. i'll use it a little more but i think i might be able to free up the HDMI port used by my OG steamlink hardware.

YMMV. good luck!
