Steam Link

Google TV app bug
Please see the following link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam_Link/s/hajHI7tzdQ

Steam link for Android TV appears to have a hard coded delay issue that has NOTHING to do with user hardware or network.

When I stream to my Chromecast with Google TV, there is a consistent half second, audio only delay. Note the that the Chromecast is hardwired to the ethernet switch

When I hook up my old hardware steam link to the exact same ethernet switch, the stream is flawless.

It very much appears that there is a Software base delay that is introduced Only in the android version of the app.

Wondering if anyone else has this issue?

Noye: above observation is specifically for the Google TV version of the app
post the summary section of steams streaming log
\steam\logs\streaming_log.txt

if ping/network is more than 5ms then its using steams internet relays and your isp upload/download not a direct connection

disable any vpn
make sure windows network is set to private not public
if using wifi, check router settings, disable wifi isolation

if the streaming res is higher than 1080p it may be the tvs 100mb/s lan port
tvs do not have gigabit or faster lan connection
test with wifi (again, make sure wifi isolation is disabled)
and make sure that you can ping the tvs lan ip fro the host pc
both should be 192.168.same.different

100mb/s is more than enough for 1080p stream, but 4k needs more, ~120-200mb/s
link app menu -> settings -> limit res to 1080p60
on host, steam -> settings -> remote play -> change desktop res to match client = on
Thank you for providing this. However, I think I have already conclusively shown that my host settings and network are fine based on the flawless performance through both the steam link hardware and my steam deck.

Again, I see the issue ONLY when using the Google TV app. Streaming to either steam link hardware or steam deck through the same ethernet port does NOT have the issue.

Further, note that when using the Android TV app, the ONLY thing that is delayed is audio (the video portion of the stream is flawless). The audio delay exhibits NO jitter whatsoever - - it is a rock-solid constant half second delay.

This all strongly suggests that there is an issue in the app software itself.
Somehow the Google TV app is failing to correctly process audio specifically.

again
the tvs lan port is only 100mb/s
even if the router/switch are 10g or faster
its limited by the slowest device connecting to it, which would be the tv

if you are trying to stream 4k it needs much more than 100mb/s

using wifi can go faster if the tv supports n/ac/ax
I am not using the TV network adapter though, so this isn't applicable.
its wired port, and wifi, are both forms of nic (network interface connectors), or network adapters

i have not seen a tv with a wired port faster than 100mb/s
even tho the tvs have wifi n/ac/ax wifi adapters that can go faster than 100mb/s

in the tv link app settings, set max res to 1080p to see if it helps
I am streaming to a Chromecast with Google TV that is hooked to my TV. I am 1000 percent certain it is impossible that my tvs network adapter is the cause.
if you are streaming at higher res than 1080p, the tvs wired network port is the cause
I have no idea how you are reaching that conclusion. My TV is not even connected to my network.

I am streaming to a Chromecast with Google TV that is hooked to my TVs HDMI port. I am NOT using a TV based app.

The problem is specific to the CC with Google TV client hardware environment. I have no streaming issues using other client hardware environments such as steam link box, a second pc, or a steam deck.
title says 'google tv app'
there is a steam link app for android that works on the tv

if the delay is on the tvs hdmi input, you need to go to tv settings and put it in game mode to remove all image processing and delays
But as I say above, I don't have the same lag when the steam link or the steam deck is connected to the same HDMI port. So it can't be that either.
I'm saying that both myself and other smart people (see Reddit link above) are reporting seeing this problem ONLY when using a streaming dingle of some kind. And we have eliminated all of the variables basic troubleshooting can reach.

There is CLEARLY a baked in audio delay for this app when it is operating in the Android streaming dingle context. The evidence strongly suggests that this is an inherent bug for those execution environments and NOT user error.
I can confirm the same issue with my Android TV Box (Strong Leap S3). This problem is visible for both Steamlink and Moonlight streaming.

Settings I tried with the TV and Android TV Box without success:
-1080p and 4K resolution
-SDR and HDR formats
-Audio passthrough
-Limited bandwidth
-Game mode

Setup I tried with success:
-Replaced the Android TV Box with a MiniPC connected to the same TV HDMI port—no audio delay with the SteamLink app for Windows (indicating the problem is not related to the TV setup).
-Connected USB headphones/speakers to the Android TV Box—no audio delay with the SteamLink app.

Conclusion: There seems to be an issue with audio via HDMI while using Steamlink on the Android TV Box, as audio via USB shows no visible latency. My limited testing with adb and logcat provided the following results:

-Audio via HDMI shows PCM_Normal as the audio output.
-Audio via USB shows PCM_nmap as the audio output.

Due to my limited knowledge on the subject I could not investigate further, but more experienced individuals may find better insights or solutions using the data above.

Personally, I gave up and replaced the Android TV Box with a MiniPC as the streaming device. After resolving some issues (such as the lack of hardware decoding on the iGPU, which was solved by a driver update), I can now stream in 4K at 60fps without significant issues.

Incorrect
Bandwidth requirements:

-Steamlink preset for enhanced 4K streaming (including HDR) is 50Mbps, and automatic bandwidth is around 30Mbps.
-Moonlight preset for 4K streaming is 70Mbps.

You can increase the bandwidth, but it is not strictly necessary for a 4K experience

Also I suppose that both me and warren are long past standard solving solutions...
at 1080p, set to beautiful low latency here, its been using 30-50mb/s

but if the client is a device with gigabit or wifi n or better 150+mb/s then it will be fine
