Gamesir G7 Pro no Gyro steam input
I just got a new controller and was super hyped because I like using gyro, and this controller supports it. But it being a third-party Xbox controller is stopping Steam Input from allowing me to use gyro when connected to Steam. It comes up as an XInput controller, giving me no other option to enable the gyro. The controller itself comes with software where I can enable it, but with limited customization, especially not being able to set up a different template/settings for every game, for not every game supports Gyro natively or implements it well.

-And I don't know if this is the right place to put this but this guy said to make a thread here if your controller is not working with steam input https://steamcommunity.com/id/ffejrxx

No I have not received any help so far but I am hope full XD
From what i know it might be a problem with it being a Xbox controller. Xbox controllers don’t usually have gyro so steam doesn’t support it for them. You might have to use a different input remapped.
First, to double-check: did you mean to post this in the Steam *Link* discussions? If you're connecting this directly to the machine you're playing on (rather than to something you're streaming that machine to), you might want to check the normal Steam forums.

If you *are* using it with Steam Link, can you provide a little more info? E.g., what's the Link you're streaming *to*?

I ask because if you're running the Steam Link app on iOS or Android and have connected the controller wirelessly, there's a possibility that the actual iOS/Android device has actually stolen control of the controller and only exposes it to the Steam Link app as a basic gamepad (and thus that's all Steam Link can pass along to the Steam instance that you're streaming from).

Yes man no this is not related to steam link I was looking for information to get this controller to work on steam input(gyro function) and landed here.In one of the discussions it said if you have problems with your controller and steam input this is where you should go.
Huh... not sure why they'd have pointed you here; this is specifically the Steam Link discussion forums. Maybe just since Steam gets controller support via SDL, and one of the main SDL maintainers (slouken) is also the Steam Link maintainer, they were figuring you could flag him down that way and see about getting support added to SDL's controller library. (Though as SDL is open-source, Gamesir could add the support themselves...)

Anyway, even if it's not via Steam Link, I *can* tell you that a brief bit of searching turns up that the Gamesir G7 currently will apparently enumerate itself as a generic Xbox Wireless Controller when not using their custom software. Given that it reports itself as a generic Xbox Wireless Controller (which doesn't support gyro), I suspect that's the heart of your problem, as a previous poster noted.

Supposedly using reWASD on Windows will let you expose the G7 Pro as a Playstation DualShock controller (thus enabling gyro in anything that supports DualShock gyro), but as I don't personally have a G7 Pro I cannot test that.
try to keep the app active when you play; when the app is open i noticed my g7 is noticed as xbox one controller, and when closed its xinput. if the app close and the controller reset when you close the app, try the other pulling rate, mine was stable only at 500
Thank you everyone for the help I think the only option now is a emulator. But I have tried steam link as well and the app on my phone does not pick up the controller if I go to check my Bluetooth says that Gamesir Xbox controller is connected.

So, having managed to poke at the G7 Pro now (whee curiosity), I can tell you that yep, without its own software present, it reports itself as a completely standard Xbox controller. Which is 100% why the gyro doesn't show up for you without their software running.

HOWEVER. Remember my comment above about "Though as SDL is open-source, Gamesir could add the support themselves..."? Turns out, Gamesir's done exactly that, and contributed a driver for their controller to SDL3! It went into the SDL3 source *literally* less than a day ago! (14 hours ago as of the time I'm writing this post.)

Witness: https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/commit/bb8eee8fac287c4368b7530d2b1ef78af08c5d29

And looking through the code, it even properly exposes gyro support!

Which means that if that all works properly, then at some point in the future (whenever that change eventually percolates into the Steam ecosystem) Steam Input should just magically pick up support for the G7 Pro's gyro and paddles.

In the meantime, however... yeah, unfortunately, I suspect your only option RIGHT NOW is something like reWASD to make the G7 Pro look like a DualShock to everything else.

Bro you are a legend
That commit is for GameSir-G7 Pro 8K controller which is a new PC only controller they unveiled recently. I am not sure whether it will apply for regular xbox g7 pro controllers as well.

FWIW, my assumption that it supports the 4K as well was based on reading the actual source of the driver.

While the commit message only lists the Pro 8K, the driver _itself_ says for Gamesir HID controllers (plural). But more to the point, the driver kicks in on the Gamesir vendor ID along with either product ID 0x10B8 (explicitly documented as the 8K controller) or PID 0x1022 (which is listed as generic Gamesir HID, and which I believe is the PID the 4K uses -- though I don't have a Pro 4K right here to check what it reports itself as at the moment).

I grant it's still an assumption, though.
Ah, nice to see that, seems like there are some issues with keeping those changes at the moment:

https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/commit/273a0930321098ad12ccdf5de68ad5958db8a8f1

Hopefully that gets resolved relatively quickly by Gamesir. Can't see what exactly is the issue that they are being asked to respond to is though. Nice controller but I unfortunately gambled on it working well with the Steam Deck (to be fair is something that they do not officially support), when at the moment it has only basic functionality. :steamsad:
Go to Gamesir Nexus -> motion.

pay attention to:

Activate method: Hold to turn on
Activate Button: LT (aim button, depends on your game)
Output: right stick (depends on your game)

enjoy :-)
