I'm using the latest version of steam link from a windows pc to my steam deck, and it doesn't properly register presses of Mouse 4 or Mouse 5. It seems to randomly switch between not recognizing them at all, recognizing the initial press but not holding it down, or fully recognizing them, with no pattern as to which it does at any moment
