Steam Link streaming in squished 4:3 aspect?
I have steam link on my android TV, and on my Apple TV 4K. Whenever I connect to my PC big picture mode launches fine, but the view is in a 4:3 window, despite all the settings showing the resolution is set correctly at 4k, or 1440p, or 1080p. It has black bars down the sides, and the image seems a little squished in.

Whenever I’m streaming I have my monitor turned off. I do have an ultrawide monitor, could it be “stuck” in the wider aspect, and just sending the rendered pixels down to my 16:9 display causing the squashing? Is there a way to tell my PC to switch the desktop resolution to match my steam link stream resolution?

If you're streaming from Windows, yes. Go to Steam -> Settings -> Remote Play and you should find the options there. If you have SudoVDA (a driver for a 'virtual' display, e.g. a monitor that doesn't exist), you can even set it to use SudoVDA and create a display with the appropriate resolution.
