Steam Link

Steam Link

Kodi
I took a quick stab at building Kodi in the examples/kodi branch. It doesn't link yet, but it has a bunch of the dependencies set up and needed tweaks for the build scripts.

Feel free to play around and submit pull requests!

I think the repo is private, since I get a 404 on https://github.com/slouken/kodi and don't see it in your github account.
It's a branch in the steamlink-sdk repo.
I renamed the branch examples/kodi for clarity.
Okay, it links now. I haven't tried to run it yet...
Are you compiling Kodi with the video decompression API that you mentioned wasn't available yet in your other post?
No, I'm building with ffmpeg for now, just to get things up and running.
I'll try to get it linking, having this running would be awesome. This and Plex would make my day, the only extra things that I needed the Steam Link to do.
So with my latest commits, it builds and runs, slowly, on the Steam Link. I haven't done extensive testing or hooked up hardware accelerated video playback.

Cheers!
Very nice. Anyone who is in favor of freedom and hackability over the walled gardens of consoles need to buy one of these things pronto.
OK, now I need to buy this. However, 256MiB of ram sonds a bit restrictive for apps, regardless of other components, especially for heavy apps like Kodi. I just fired it up and my system, and it takes 113MiB on startup, and counting. The UI was particularly sluggish when I was using it on a 256MiB RaspberryPi. As this one was later upgraded to 512MiB without reported cost increase, do you think it's possible that a later version of the SteamLink will offer more memory? Especially if there's demand for native apps?
I'm quite happy to see this happening.
Steam Link and Steam Machines need home theatre functionality to become widely adopted, and KODI is great way to achieve that.
It would probably be very good idea to somehow achieve seamless transition between BPM and KODI user interfaces, so that user doesn't even know those are two different programs.
I would love to open discussion about this, but I'm not sure where would be the right place.
I've merged the examples/kodi branch into the master repository:

..Why is there any reason you would need that? The entire point and design around Steam Link is to stream games from your PC to the Link.

Yes, and no.
Steam link is great, but it have probems with custom resolutions - Nvidia doing this great, and also you need Steam account active to stream. In Nvidia you dont. You can simply set your desktop and play any game you want, or any software you want - include steam.

Also nvidia have very low imput lag.
