Steam Link

MAME4ALL
I started porting MAME4ALL to the Steam Link, and the work in progress is available here:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steamlink-sdk/tree/master/examples/mame4all

It currently builds a Steam Link app package and runs some roms.

Edit: Input work and graphic/sound optimization is complete. Using a gamepad alone needs additional configuration work, but if you're familiar with MAME you should have fun with this.

Enjoy!

We-hey! Looks great, very promising! What do I need to build this on win 7? Not on my pc at the mo..
You need a Linux system to use the Steam Link SDK. I use Ubuntu 14.04 in a virtual machine. It also helps being comfortable with building open source applications in case you run into issues. Feel free to post here and see if anyone else can help if you need it.
Are we allowed to post binaries in this forum?

Yes, please ;-) I don't actually know if you're allowed, but I'd be happy to test things, but I don't think i'll be installing a linux system so my part would require a binary...
Great app implementation. I just show this yt video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq3tFrgOfes

Quick question: Are y going to implement this into a new steam link firmware update? Love to test and see it!

Amazing, it looks very promising, thanks for sharing.
@Slouken are you going to implement this into a new steam link firmware update? Or is it just here for testing purposes? Love to test and see it!
Works nicely - thanks.

Anyone found a nice way to exit the app and return to the main Steam link menu without having to cycle power?

EDIT: Ah, found it - need to add something for the joystick to quit in the front-end re: gp2x_frontend.cpp

EDIT2: (is_joy_button_pressed(pi_joy[START_1], ExKey1) && is_joy_button_pressed(pi_joy[SELECT_1], ExKey1) don't seem to register on a Steam controller. Odd.

Just to answer my own question, the way to exit the Mame4All app is to press down the left stick (i.e. click it down as a button) and hold the 'Start' (the button to the right of the center Steam/Xbox circle button). That will quit the app nicely.

The code is looking for Joy_b6 and Joy_b7 to be pressed together, which I think is a bug as the button to the left of the Steam/Xbox circle is Joy_b4 (I think).

Anyway, problem solved. I did a tiny pull request for a fix.

@Slouken - Is it a bad idea to provide a ROM-less binary zip release of this, or would you prefer to keep it just for people that can build it on Linux themselves?
I built this on ubuntu 15.10, got it moved over to my steam link no problem, but when I try to run it, it shows a blank screen, then goes back to the steam link menu. Do I need to be running the beta steam link software to use this?
Nevermind, I came back a few hours later, powered it on and the program started working finally. It doesn't look like any steam controller buttons are mapped to p1 start or coin 1, I had to hook up a keyboard just to start a game, and I could not exit with the controller no matter what combination of buttons I tried, always had to use the keyboard escape.

My message posted just before your post gives you the joystick button combo you need. It's a bug, and it's left analog stick clicked down and the right start button (EDIT: If you build it after Feb 17 2016 it is now J1 SELECT and J1 START buttons) - you need to press them a few times, but it does exit ok, allowing me not to need a keyboard anymore.

You do need a keyboard initially, either that or include a preconfigred mame cfg on the USB with the mappings already set-up for a steam/xbox controller.

Is there any chance to grab a binary of this?
