Steam Link doesn't work on Wayland
Hello. I have tried Steam Link on my Phone to connect to my PC.

When I connect, it just gives me a black screen, I can control my PC, but it just shows a black screen.

This is probably a Wayland problem, since I'm using SwayWM.

Hardware Info (if needed):
OS: Arch Linux (btw)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
1 physical processor; 6 cores; 12 threads
RAM: 32GB (32252892KiB)
Motherboard: ASRock B450M Steel Legend
Graphics: AMD/ATI Cezanne
1440x900
Wayland
AMD Radeon Graphics (renoir, LLVM 16.0.6, DRM 3.54, 6.5.5-arch1-1)
Storage: Kingston NV2 SSD 1TB
ATA WDC WD10EURX-63U
Audio: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic (running with pipewire)

Running Steam with pipewire flag should fix that.
steam -pipewire
I also agree it would be perfect to have Wayland support for Steam Link. I get audio, but just a black screen as well. However the mouse does show on the TV.

The 'easy fix' is to use Xorg/X11 when logging in, but I chose my new AMD gaming rig especially because of the much smoother experience of Wayland on the Gnome desktop. All animations and movements are more reponsive/fluid.

Since Ubuntu and many other distros are now pushing (or beginning to push) Wayland as their default setting, it would be awesome to have it work to Steam Link as well.

What that means to me:
Streaming from my gaming PC upstairs to the Apple TV in the living room to get some controller based / console experience. And it still works with X11, but... switching around is just not the ideal user experience. You'll want to just boot up and play games.

I am using Ubuntu 23.10
CPU: 5800X3D
GPU: RX 7800 XT
Apple TV 4K

Unfortunately, this did not help me.

I am trying to stream my games from a CachyOS to my SteamDeck and Win11 Lenovo Legion Slim-5 laptop.

For some reason, the only game that can be streamed is GTA5 but it only has 20/80 chance to run. Most of the time it will freeze during startup scene after Rockstar logo but some times it starts and I am able to play.

Streaming games TO the CachyOS works fine.
I can stream games from SteamDeck or Win11 laptop to CachyOS any time but this is not what I need. CachyOS pc is my main gaming device with most powerful hardware of all 3 of them.

I tried to tweak the usual Encoder/Decoder settings, use LD_PRELOAD in startup options, tweak every single option in "Advanced Streaming Options" for Host and Clients and NOTHING...
Also played with some settings on CachyOS level just to try something new and still nothing.

I am at lose here. I do not know what else to try.

I am slowly thinking that CachyOS is not made for this...

EDIT:
I managed to run GTA5 by adding the following launch options
-high -windowed
where the "high" option does not help here, it is used for something else.
So, by running the game in windowed mode, I managed to stream the GTA5 to my devices!

Further tweaking, i got the following option:
-width 2554 -height 1363 -windowed -high

The reason for those odd window sizes are the border around the window(game) and the taskbar down for the display of 2560x1440p.

If I set up the taskbar to auto hide, then I get the following numbers:
-width 2554 -height 1408 -windowed -high

Unfortunately, I am still unable to stream Baldurs Gate 3... I just does not stream video. Audio is fine...
I managed to stream BG3 by forcing a Windows version instead of native Linux port.
Additionally I need to use Larian Launcher to start the game. If I try to skip it with launch options, it will result in black screen.

Completely locks up my PC if I try to connect with the app after running steam with this.

...as I've just been doing work on making the error-handling for Pipewire capture more robust, I would be *very* interested getting your ~/.steam/steam/logs/streaming_log.txt, and any other information you are willing to share about the system (GPU, drivers, Linux distro, etc.)

I know u didn't ask me specifically, but I'm currently using this fix, and it worked, but the Steam links video is extremely laggy. The stream updates a full second or so later, though controller input comes thru fine on the host side as usual.

I assume the logs will be useful to you in this initial buggy state, so I'm posting now. I'm gonna change some of the streaming settings to see if anything helps. If it does I'll post that.

here's my log: https://github.com/moondrool2000/moondrools-bootleg-pastebin/blob/main/streaming_log.txt

Yeah, for some reason, on some setups, the Pipewire capture is returning frames *extremely slowly*. It's being looked at.
