SteamLink Stutters Over With Quest3, AirLink Works Fine
Quest 3 over wifi has stutter over SteamLink that makes playing impossible. Moving the controllers around has them stuttering and jittering 2-5 times in a 5 second window. To clarify, this isn't a tracking issue stutter but a frame stutter. If I use Meta's AirLink the experience is nearly flawless. SteamLink is set to auto bandwidth, 90fps. AirLink is set to auto bandwidth with a 200mbps limit, 120fps.

The desktop running SteamVR has a 3090 and a 5950X cpu. 2.5g network back to the switch. I'm using a Unifi U7 Pro on 6ghz, the Quest 3 reports 2400mbps tx/rx in the wifi settings. I am the only 6ghz access point according to RF scans, so I don't think it is a RF issue. The access point is within ~10ft of the Quest 3 at all times with line of sight. Local speed tests report a real world throughput of over 600mbps throughout my entire playspace.

I tested the following bands and widths. The broadcasting channel for all tests was statically set on the channel with the lowest interference. Tests were done with the following radio and widths.
6ghz 160mhz width
6ghz 80mhz width
5ghz 80mhz width
5ghz 40mhz width

I connected my old NanoHD access point to test on its 5ghz radio to rule out an issue with my U7 pro.

After testing, SteamLink always had the same issue where motion was jittery and made me sick after a little while. Sometimes I would see the "void" around what was being streamed over SteamLink if I moved my head too fast at the time there was a stutter. AirLink remained viable for all test conditions.

My Index works wonderfully on the same system to rule out a performance issue.

The only thing that I can find in the detailed debug graph is that ILU jumps up every time there is a stutter. There is little information online about what some of the Detailed Debug graphs mean, so I have no clue what ILU represents.

Here is an image of my graph. Each time the ILU graph at the bottom would jump up to 50ms from its normal of around 38ms, I would hit a stutter. If I didn't move around in VR, there would be less ILU spikes.

Unsure what I can look into for a fix.

I tried Steam Link last night and it was unplayable. I was even using the USB link cable!
As an FYI, Steam Link does not (currently) use the USB link cable, so that won't matter much. That'll be changing before too long, but right now it only uses Wifi for the Quest.

Secondly, and this is I grant not necessarily obvious, but Steam Link and Steam VRLink are two separate things. On Quest they're bundled into one app so that you can launch either, but generally it's going to be easier to get tech support for *VR streaming* (e.g. VRLink) on the SteamVR forums; the Steam Link forums generally are for the OG Steam Link 2D streaming functionality.

If you post over there with the debug graphs (and potentially a link to your vrserver.txt, vrcompositor.txt, and driver_vrlink.txt log files), you'll probably find more advice/help.
