BUG REPORT: Chaperone doesn't respect location of Stationary Boundary (uses old/previous Roomscale Boundary instead)
BUG REPORT

TITLE

Chaperone doesn't respect location of a current Stationary Boundaries (it imports previous Roomscale Boundary instead)

DESCRIPTION

On startup, Steam Link is supposed to import an approximation the current Boundary from the Meta Quest headset into Steam VR to become the Chaparone.

For Meta Quest Roomscale Boundaries this works, Steam VR's Chaparone approximates the Roomscale Boundary shape and it's location/centre.

BUT if the user is using a stationary boundary (such when sitting or in a wheelchair) then this is ignored and the Chaparone imports the most recent Roomscale Boundary as the Chaparone location instead.

This impacts Steam Link VR app only; both Meta Link and Virtual Desktop properly centre a default Chaparone around the user when starting up with a Stationary Boundary.

Now that the Chaparone can't be disabled, this impacts gameplay and function.

HARDWARE
  • Meta Quest 2
  • Windows PC (Windows 10, 16GB RAM, RTX3060Ti)

SOFTWARE

Meta Quest 2
  • Firmware: v81.1034
  • Steam Link: v2.0.19

Windows PC
  • Steam: Stable 1759461205 Build Fri, Oct 3 4:27 AM UTC
  • Steam VR: 2.13.7 (same with previous .12 and beta .14)

WHAT I'VE TRIED
  • SteamVR, previous (.12), stable (.13), and beta (.14) versions.
  • Running Room Setup
  • Clearing all saved boundaries on the Meta Quest
  • Rebooting PC and Quest (multiple times)

Issue is persistent

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

On the above firmware/software/hardware configuration.

Pre-requisits/Assumptions
  • Home is turned OFF in Steam VR.
  • Both devices are connected to the same WiFi network.
  • Quest 2 is set to work with Meta Air Link.

PC
  1. Boot PC
  2. Start Steam if it isn't started by default

Meta Quest 2
  1. Create a Roomscale Boundary.
  2. Move outside the boundary area and chose a Stationary Boundary.
  3. Run Steam Link.
  4. Observe that the location of the displaced grey Chaparone area represents the Roomscale Boundary, it is not centred on the user's Stationary Boundary as one would expect.
  5. In Steam VR, select Exit VR.
  6. Exit Steam Link.
  7. Run Virtual Desktop or Meta Link.
  8. Run Steam VR.
  9. Observe that there's a default sized Chaparone centred around the users location (the Stationary Boundary) as one would expect.
