Changes:
  • Added an experimental video codec, Pyrowave, which allows high bandwidth, low latency video streaming on some devices
  • Added a network health check while streaming
  • Automatic display resolution does a better job of matching the actual display resolution, up to 1080p
  • Detect video resolution changes when using AV1
  • Fixed mouse button clicks generating an Enter key press
  • Fixed audio crash after 3 hours of streaming
  • Fixed crashes when using the controller to interact with streaming dialogs

Mouse clicks don't respond in-game, but the cursor moves. However, the mouse works fine in the Steam Link menu and the Big Picture menu. Before the update, mouse clicks worked in-game.
Also having big problems with the mouse which have made Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo unusable. When you drag while holding the middle or right mouse button (e.g. to pan/rotate) then it won't stop dragging and you can't click anything. Had to switch to a using a PC client in the meantime because of this.
The mouse only works when the cursor is visible. In games where the cursor is hidden, like CS2, the mouse buttons stop working.
This was reported in the 1.4.2 Beta thread, and it was stated the issue was reproduced and a fix was forthcoming. I guess it didn't make it into the final build?

Edit:
It may be helpful for users to confirm their tablet make and model here, in case it is specific hardware. Samsung Tab S9 FE+ here.

Edit 2:
Reverting to 1.3.32 resolved the issue, if anyone needs a quick fix until the issue is sorted out.
Issue is present on Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ and Xiaomi Pad 6
Please provide not only Android variant (device and Android version) but mouse version.

For instance, on Samsung Tab A7 and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max, with Logi M196 Bluetooth mouse, the old version would generate an enter key instead of a mouse click due to Android generating fallback events. This version has mouse work correctly on those.

On Samsung S21, both the old version and the new one worked fine with left mouse click. On the other two devices, using a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse also worked under both builds.

It seems likely the change that fixed mouse on those by ignoring Android fallback keyboard events has broken it for other devices, so being able to reproduce with a specific device/Android version/mouse would be super helpful.
Mice: Microsot Bluetooth, iClever Bluetooth, Logitech Bluetooth
Devices: Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (Android 15), Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ (Android 16), Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (Android 17)

None of the above work in any combination of mouse/device with Steam Link 1.4.2. All work flawlessly with 1.3.32.
1.4.2: LAN discovery broken on NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (regression from 1.3.32)

Hi Packetdancer and slouken.

Since updating to 1.4.2, Steam Link on my NVIDIA Shield TV Pro no longer finds any hosts on the LAN and only relay works. Downgrading to 1.3.32 on the same device and network fixes it; updating to 1.4.2 again breaks it. The iOS app on the same network finds the hosts fine.

Packet capture from a host (192.168.1.24) while the Shield (192.168.1.66) scans:

Shield broadcasts from an ephemeral port to 255.255.255.255:27036
Host replies over unicast UDP to that port within ~10 ms
Shield answers with ICMP “port unreachable” for that same port

At the same time, adb shell netstat -anu on the Shield shows a udp6 :::<port> socket for that port. bindv6only is 0. It looks like the 1.4.2 discovery socket doesn’t accept IPv4 replies (IPV6_V6ONLY set, or listening on a different socket than the one that sends).

Network: wired and Wi-Fi both affected, same subnet, IPv6 disabled on the LAN.

Problems started yesterday, closely related to deployment of the new version to the Google Play Store.

I can provide more info if required

(The irony about the situation is now that Pirowave is out of beta, connection over LAN stops working for me to give it a proper try :') )

Best regards

What is the host side of this connection? (Windows 10, Windows 11, Ubuntu, Bazzite, Cachy, SteamOS, Arch, etc.)
For me after the update shows latency problem windows and I only can click exit and it exits from the whole streaming... really annoying.... then open again and connect then after a while it pops up again, so I switched to low quality and still... before I had no problem with latency, quality or the connection

I have exactly the same issue, after updating to last version the Steam Link app on my Google Streaming 4k is completely unusable: after I connect to my PC it gives me the red icon every 5-10 seconds.

Did the issue start when you updated *Steam* on the host, or when you updated Steam Link on the Google streamer box? There were just updates to both sides, which is why I ask.
"Display Style" from new Steam Client Beta seems not working from Android Steam Link Beta. (guess it didn't pushed on android side that no flags yet)
still it push and select 1440*900 resolution from dummy plug's support resolution list for 16:10 android client display resolution,

i'm really confusing that most of setting values that 'need to exist from client setting side' only exist from host pc side.
honestly host is always same enviorment/clients are always different enviorment devices.
so 'fix certain resolution, select display style' kind of options should set from the client, not host.
it's much like 'policy', not the 'setting'..

also [...] and [keyboard] icons are always reset the position to default when 'activate/deactivate intergrated virtual touch controller overlay by game' this issue is long long time struggle to users, at least need option to just 'reset it everytime' or 'acting position same as hide action'.
(even happen when you're set 'not using touch controller' before streaming session start, title trigger from steam can ignore user setting and forcing on phone/tablet everytime)
cause some games(backpack hero, space marine2) always triggering virtual gamepad or separated controller id connection when game excuted before start steam link session/turn on the game from steam link session.
that 'forcing off controller that connected before steam link session start to user force it reconnect again but you're over 300 miles from home' and 'force trigger touch controller overlay on the client device screen, that reset the other overlay icon positions'

also stastics overlay can only access when overlay icons, that impossible to separate turn on/off toggle those from steam link menu screen(four finger touch)
so you have to always forcing on overlay all the time -> touch [,,,] -> then click the stastics graph button like 'more then 3 actions' to toggle it.

also those stastics overlay itself going in to 'overlap the number text rendering' that impossible to see the numbers on bitrates quite often if your steam link session or client decoder run on low bitrate(or recover from it).
at least i guess those overlay need to insert blank black square text during frames to hard reset those video compression in text render point issue.

also most of dummy plugs peoples using are quite limited resolution/refreshrate/SDRonly profile that usually impossible to fix from user side(unless make insane risks)

so modern pc that 'mixed HDR/SDR' screen cases, those 'return OS HDR/SDR state before steam link session start' got sometimes malfunctions by various causes
(various display hibernate style in connection, power off, windows hibernate trigger behavior in different physical/logical methods)
and those are also affected when peoples using dummy dongle for steam link kind of streaming.

Unfortunately I don't know which update caused it.

So far I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app on the Android box, formatting the host PC, and resetting the router. The problem is still there.

Worth mentioning: the whole network is wired and everything worked flawlessly before the latest Steam and Steam Link updates.
before adopt 'virtual display and headless mode', would you get some survey from devs entered in steam store sides?

one of reason that peoples using steam link that much inferior then open-source solutions are cause of Anti-Cheat and each devs/companies policy on streaming/remotes session.

so before 'big change' in tech and code sides, need to 'make sure clear in policy' first.
cause all the studios got different policy on allow/disallow those for anticheat messurements.
(honestly curious why valve doesn't indicate this serious critical 'allow/disallow remote/streaming' things in steam store page)
