cool, quick question, when does using 59.94 fps make sense, rather than 60?

When your display uses 59.94 Hz instead of 60. It's also useful if your device doesn't quite display as fast as the host and you get gradually increasing latency over time.
Hey, I've noticed some odd things happening when using the steam link app on my new Samsung S25 FE.

I get a very consistent frame hiccup pattern when streaming a game that is locked by the developer at 60 FPS (Elden ring, sekrio, megaman zero collection) and is shown on the steam link detailed performance graph (red line and the frame loss counter rises to ~3). Interestingly, starting a screen capture/recording on my Samsung phone completely eliminates these hiccups and the game runs smooth as it records. These hiccups do not occur in games that run at 120hz+

I think I may have pinpointed it down to the Samsung displays LTPO tech that dynamically lowers the refresh rate and this is somehow messing with/conflicting with the steam link stream. Very confusing issue. Is this something the dev team is aware of?

Question: what does *Steam Link* show as the framerate when your phone is in this state? Does setting the streaming framerate to 60 produce the same problem for you in other games?

I can see the "capture 1920x1080 @" line in the detailed performance graph dial back from 100-120 to 60 when I start games that are 60 FPS capped. And yes, setting the framerate limit on the steamlink app to 60 FPS causes these consistent stutters to happen on all games.

Strangely, starting a screen recording on the phone eliminates these hiccups even when capping the steamlink app at 60 FPS in settings.

Well, slouken dropped an S25 FE on my desk this afternoon, and... wow, you were not wrong, this behavior is *bizarre*. But I can definitely confirm your observation! It is not just your device.

So, consider the issue confirmed and added to the List of Stuff To Look At, at least.
