Slight audio delay
Hi,

I am using the steam link app on an Ugoos AM9 Pro. When steaming but also in the app menu I have a slight audio delay. About 0.1-0.2 Seconds. I tried all the settings (buffer, uncompressed audio and low latency mode) unfortunately I can not get the delay go away. With other apps the delay like moonlight the delay does not exist. Is there a fix for that? Am I missing some setting?

Hi again,

I looked into this some more. Steam Link plays audio through AAudio in low-latency mode. On the AM9 Pro, that low-latency path (MMAP) is blocked by the firmware by default, so the app falls back to a normal audio track, and that's where the extra delay comes from. Moonlight/Artemis uses a plain Java AudioTrack instead, and on the same box it has noticeably less delay.

When I unblock MMAP in the firmware, it's worse: Steam Link gets no audio at all, because the box's MMAP implementation is broken:

AAudio: AAudioStream_requestStart(s#1) returned -899
SteamLink: Couldn't create mixer: BuildAAudioStream : AAUDIO_ERROR_DISCONNECTED

I've reported the firmware bug to Ugoos. But other Amlogic/Android TV boxes likely behave the same way, and Steam Link has no way to work around it right now.

Could you add one of these?

- A setting to choose the audio backend (AAudio / AudioTrack), or
- An automatic fallback to AudioTrack (SDL's Java audio backend) when AAudio can't open or start a low-latency stream.
