Steam Link

Google TV Streamer is impressive
I've owned the original Steam link hardware, RPI 4, Chromecast w/ Google TV, and now the Google TV Streamer. Up until now, the best steam link experience was always with the original hardware, but the Google TV Streamer has ended that reign.

Streaming PC Host runs Linux and is hard wired to the router, but my steam link hardware, etc are 5Ghz WiFi streaming 1080P.

Original Steam link hardware:
- < 1ms input
- < 1 ms ping
- ~22 - 29ms Display (wifi controller mode)

RPI 4 hardware:
- < 1ms input
- < 1 ms ping
- ~26 - 32ms Display (wifi controller mode)

Chromecast w/ Google TV hardware:
- < 1ms input
- < 1 ms ping
- ~35 - 48ms Display (BLE controller mode)

Google TV Streamer hardware:
- < 1ms input
- < 1 ms ping
- ~13 - 16ms Display (BLE controller mode)

How do you manage to use the controller in BLE? I can use stadia controller normally, or Xbox, but for some reason Steam Controller is detected as mouse by Google Streamer, it is detected as steam controller at Steam Link but if I try to unlock the computer, nothing works, no way to select the virtual keyboard. No response from any input.
Once unlocked, everything works fine.
thx for testing all those values. :47_thumb_up:
cause of that over 32ms delay, i was consider move to new Google TV Streamer from CcwGT 4k (2020) model.
even in lower the bitrate or resolutions from both sides, change to Broadcomm chip used routers, change to 6Ghz bands, couldn't lower the value at the limit.
guess i should consider move to Google TV Streamer HW if microsoft's wireless display mode in new LGTV can't get the enough low latency in high bitrates.
(samsung wasn't considered cause they're still stuck at Wifi5 in TV)
Does the steam link stream run smoothly with the Google TV streamer? I tried using a ChromecastHD, and despite the network stats looking ok, the stream would always stutter, even when using ethernet. It seemed like the hardware of the Chromecast wasn't powerful enough to run steam link well. I also have the steamn link hardware and and nvivida shield and they run steam link very well. I have one more tv to go though and am hoping the tv streamer works properly, without stutter while streaming...
I just started using the streamer as a steam link but I'm having a dreadful input delay, what settings are you using? I tried using av1 but it seems to make it even worse, the pc is wired with ethernet and the modem is wifi 6 and is on the same room as the google streamer
I plan on buying a Google TV streamer, which could replace my old hardware Steam Link, so I'm interested in this thread.

how was on 4k resolution?
seems current steam link app for google play tv platform looks buggy on select decoder when host is in HDR.
(when steam link start streaming, app just crash the hardware and rest the entire google play tv system)
except bitrate test on network side, i can't test on CcwGT(2020).
but somehow Moonlight app is flawless, except 'separated network/have to streaming over internet' situations, seems direct wireless streaming trough sunshine/moonlight is much reliable.

(and LG WebOS is still stuck at ultra low 40Mbps bitrate decode performence for streaming in 2025, nothing app or homebrew for streaming in Samsung TizenOS either)
Yes ive tried this and it's slow and has input lag on the Google 4k streamer box. Is there a setting or something to make it playable? I really want to get this to work it would be awesome
Out of curiosity, does the latest Android beta work better on the Google TV Streamer? I feel like it might be one of those impacted by the low latency codec changes.

as far as i'd known, not like Google TV(by android) build itself, Google TV android build for google's own devices are slight different and slow periodical build.
when lastest android is 14, google tv use 12 and when lastest android is 16, google tv use 14 kinds.
(as example, not like other intergrated google tv machines, you can't just easily rooting or jailbreak google's device)
google device's limited memory/storage and low spec is they're intentions that no one can't utilize device, lose the purpose of rooting itself, no one can't filter they're advertise services from device level.
(only your methods are adguard home like solution to filter google fingerprint and ad from the wifi router itself)

if you want to compare lastest android changes from play tv devices, guess you need to wait quite a years for they compile those changes in google tv firmwares.
consider both google tv 2020/2024/2025 all limited bandwidth in hdmi 2.0 level, when the days comes, all the devices are much weaker then any cheap tv box in that era.

so my recommendation is wait for nvidia's new shield tv using Orin, that same chip with switch2.
i don't think they use Thor or Atlan. Atlan is canceled long ago, Thor is too lastest and expensive for sold in tv box.

Sorry, I meant the latest beta of the Android version of Steam Link. I should've been more clear. :)

Though at this point 1.3.22 has been pushed live, so now it's just "does the latest version of the Steam Link app work better on Google TV Streamer than it used to?"
