Steam Controller cannot connect via bluetooth to Fire Stick
The Fire Stick, which supports Steam Link, has a weird setup in where its bluetooth connections has different categories, and it seems none of them are able to recognize the Steam Controller. I was unsure what Hub to post this in, but since Steam Link says it can use the Steam Controller with bluetooth, and this was my use case, I decided to post here.

This is most likely an issue with with how Amazon handles bluetooth, but I doubt they'd listen to me, so an Valve employee bringing it up would bring more attention to it.

Hrm. I tested previously on a Fire Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Cube 3rd Gen previously, and both were able to connect to the Steam Controller. Before I go haul those back out to test again, can I just confirm *which* Fire Stick you're using?

(And also double-check whether the Steam Controller has been connected to a PC in order to update the firmware to the latest.)

Fire Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen).
The firmware recently had a big update which overhauled the home menu, so maybe that broke something.
Also, my controller is up to date.

....just to double-check, you're putting the Controller *fully* into Bluetooth pairing mode, yes? I just remembered someone figuring it would go into pairing immediately on being put into Bluetooth mode, rather than going fully into the pairing stage.

Press and hold the Steam button, the B button, and R1 until the light turns blue and starts blinking *quickly*, not just blinking. Slow blink is Bluetooth mode, so keep holding it until it goes into fast blinking, which is pairing mode.

If you've got it in the fast blinking pairing mode and it's still not showing up, I'll dig up the Fire TV Stick 4K Max again tomorrow to double-check with.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
You know, they really should mention this in the troubleshooting guide.
Thank you anyways, have a good rest of your day.
Glad it was something simple! If it makes you feel better, you're not the first person I've seen make that mistake -- like I said, seeing someone else make that mistake is why I thought to mention it in the first place. :)

I'll poke someone to see if we can't add a note about that on the troubleshooting page.

Wait, you're an employee?
How come you don't have the Valve badge?

I only put on a metaphorical work hat on this account here on the Steam Link forums, and even that only ever really just to ask for details on a bug report, or provide info on "there'll be a fix in the next build."

So I have not looked into getting the badge added; it seems to me like a really effective way to end up getting bugged about a lot of things by random folks outside of these specific discussion forums. :)

This worked perfectly! Steam Support wanted to RMA the thing so I dug a little deeper and found it was a lot simpler than it was made out to be. They really should have this in the troubleshooting guide. :steamsad:

I checked and behold..
"First, make sure your Controller is powered off, then press and hold B + R1 + Steam for about 4 seconds until the Controller chimes. The LED will rapidly blink with double blue pulses to indicate it is ready to pair."
IT IS IN THE GUIDE!
We're just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blind!
This isn't a new addition, it has been there since the 11th.
