Steam Link

Steam Link

Are there any plans to create an x86/x86_64 version?
SteamLink running on rpi is great and all, but what I'm really trying to accomplish is less stuff attached to my TV :). In order to do this, I'd need to be able to run the steamlink software from a plain Ubuntu installation on an HTPC.

Before anyone mentions it, yes I know steam in-home streaming exists -- it's not the same thing. It doesn't stream the whole desktop, and it doesn't handle VR mirroring like the dedicated SteamLink hardware does.

A virtual machine or docker solution would also work just fine. If anyone has a working solution, I'd love to see it.

Are you sure?

If I'm not wrong, SteamOS has an outdated Linux Kernel, Graphics Drivers and/or MESA.

Yes. I tried this, and the steam streaming experience isn’t even close to how steamlink works
Optionally you could probably use Android via Qemu or Anbox on Linux and use the Android apk directly?

There's also Raspbian desktop for x86 but I suspect you'd have to recompile steamlink for x86
Android via qemu sounds interesting. I may give that a shot
? the default steamclient on Linux already does streaming.
Bit of a necropost: Did you ever have any luck? About to build a Linux HTPC myself, and was hoping I could make it a Steam Link client :(
I'd seriously recommend not bothering with it. Get an Nvidia Shield or something else Android-based that can run Steam Link naturally without hacks.
I actually totally dropped Steam Link entirely because Linux streaming can be pretty janky. Instead I ordered one of these, which works great:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073B84CY1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It allows you to send HDMI and USB over long ranges using a standard ethernet cable, and is less hassle than in-home streaming options, depending on what it is you're trying to accomplish.
I have been using the Linux Steam to stream for years now. I love it. VNC to control my gaming computer from my bedroom and steam in game. If I ever get round to fixing my gaming RPi might try streaming to it.
