Can anyone tell me of a way to tweak the deadzone that is applied to controllers connected? What directory might I look in? is the deadzone (which is much too big, and different from / superseding the steam controller configs) hard-coded? It is driving me insane.

I'm not too familiar with Debian but a pointer in the right direction would be really appreciated.
