Steam link disables snes controller

I have been using steamlink on a raspi 3 with retropie installed for a while. It was working great and recognized all connected controllers.

Since one or two months (version 1.1.96 I think), steam does not recognize a 3rd party snes controller anymore. Version 1.2.0.241 did not solve the problem.

For me it seems like steam link is even breaking something in Linux. The controller refuses to work in emulationstation once steam link is closed (even when steam link never connected to any pc). Only thing which helped was a reboot of the raspi.

Any advice what to do or how to further debug the issue?

I *might* be experiencing something similar with a 3rd-party switch pro controller.

It has always taken a few plug-unplug cycles for steam link and the steam host to recognize the controller, but lately it has been disconnecting at random while playing. To get the controller working again, I have then to disconnect from the host, close steam link, and start from the beginning.

Note the controller is always plugged via USB, so it's not the battery dying. My setup works correctly with an xbox 360 controller, so it's something specific of this controller.
Agreed: No problem with my other controllers: SteamController, PS5, 8bitdo SN30.

SN30 and PS5 are connected via bluetooth
SteamController and SNES controller are connected via USB dongle.

Could it be, that the SNES controller has no analog sticks and/or less buttons?

Any clue how to further debug?
A short follow up: I have been playing most of January without further disconnects of my 3rd party Nintendo Switch Pro controller.

At first I switched the host to the steam beta branch, but I still had some disconnects. (The new big picture interface is quite nice, though!)

Then I read somewhere something about disabling the controller's rumble in the steam configuration. I was exceptical, but since I don't like the rumble that much, I gave it a try and so far so good!

So, to anyone having problems with their controllers, perhaps try to play with the setup options in the steam configuration.
How can I influence the controller settings of my SNES controller in steam, when the controller is never visible? I mean it gets killed by steamlink and therefore does not show up in the controller list anymore. So whatever is set or was set by me cannot be influenced.

Is there any way to access these settings even if the controller is not connected? Where are these settings stored?
