Since updating to this version steam link has stopped working. If I load via emulation station i get the black screen with the steam logo and it hangs. If I run it from command line it says failed to add service - already in use.

I am running a pi 4 with retropie and it worked fine wednesday evening but not since the update. Have updated everything and tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as removing any folders related to valve/steamlink and still no joy.
I'm getting same problem. When it froze on Steam Logo, i restarted and now steam link just opens black screen with cursor.

I'm running pi 3b+ with retropie which also worked fine yesterday.
Same here. Working fine until I just updated.

I tried updating the complete system but still doesn't work.

Come on... you broke it on a friday... thank you.

Same issue with steam link on retropie
I had the same issue yesterday. Updated 2 days ago from Retropie 4.3 to 4.4 on my Raspberry 3B and configured the Steam Link APP, it was working fine until yesterday with the patch. I stumbled with this post and made a tweak with a newer version that it's:

Using Putty or with a keyboard plugged in, pressing F4 and going to the terminal the command worked flawlessly... at least until the next time that you open it, because it will auto-update again and break again, even with the "steamlink --skip-update" command.
Okay, I've backed the public build down to 1.1.60 until we can investigate.

Thanks!
Please excuse my lack of understanding, but i'm failing to get it to work. Here are my steps:

1. Restart RetroPie
2. Hit F4
3. Type in the below text (on 3 separate lines)
STEAMLINK_DATA_HOME="${XDG_DATA_HOME:-$HOME/.local/share}"/SteamLink
echo "file://$STEAMLINK_DATA_HOME" >"$STEAMLINK_DATA_HOME/update_url"
echo "http://media.steampowered.com/steamlink/rpi/steamlink-rpi3-1.1.60.143.tar.gz" >"$STEAMLINK_DATA_HOME/public_build.txt"
4. Restart RetroPie
5. Open SteamLink

This opens black screen with cursor.

This is fixed, thanks!
Slouken, thank you for your help. Now after removing and reinstalling Steamlink, I'm getting a Warning, Couldn't download archive, aborting update. I select Okay, and then same black screen with cursor.
Suggestions?
Dunno if such feedback is needed, but just wanted to point out:
1. Unless I switch to beta build I cannot enable HEVC in steam link app settings on Pi 4. However, when I switch back and forth between public\beta build it shows the same 1.1.61.156 build.
2. Disabling hardware encoding on host while HEVC is enabled on Pi 4 results in all kind of weird artifacts. Mb this is expected, since diagnostics indicate that encoder is x264. NVENC works just fine.

Additionally, do you know if using legacy or fkms video driver makes any difference for streaming? Right now I can go over 1080p on a beta build but I have some weird image stuttering in games. What's weird - when that stuttering happens I still have 60fps reported, no framedrops, no network spikes, nothing. More so it won't go away if I drop quality settings to the floor. So I assume this might be something coming from Pi itself, but can't figure out what exactly.
thank you everyone for your help!
