I literally drag myself to write this article actually...
Not sure what is the reason...
Well, not many people read my blog these days anyway.
Ian's blog is "dead" like one month ago.
Time always seems so short even though I do not know how I spend or waste it...
Maybe I should just restart my blog with a post in the start of the New Year. New Year is always a good time to look back and reflect, look forward and plan.
So... Let's look at all the hits and misses in the year 2009...
Passing of my aunt - A beloved relative of mine passed away at the start of the year due to cancer. It is really a heart wrenching memory when ever I think and recall about it... A lot of thoughts here but just do not know how to use words to express it... Maybe all it van be sum up with one word, sorrow...
My 1st photography trip to Cambodia with my IR Group. It was really a fun trip with Teerex and his wife, Panda, Andrew, Max and myself. Really enjoyed myself. Need a breather from my job then.
My 1st "official" overseas trip with my secondary school friends, Ah Meng and Ah Meow and also Ah Zheng. We went to Japan for 10 days. Really a good trip.
Three business trip to Perth, I was travelling alone. First time going overseas on a business trip all by myself. Really an experience. Really love that place. Great experience.
Army issue - One ton of headache... Got charged for not taking my IPPT, thankfully that the charge was called off last minute because I got a valid medical issue. If you think that is the end then you are wrong... Another issue is regarding my deferment of my ICT because I need to attend to Ian's wedding... Send in 2 requests but got rejected... Really frustrating and depressing, not to mention exhausting as I need to get a lot of things plan and sorted out. Was finally given "time-off" to attend the wedding but need to fly back immediately after that. Really just screw up my planning and my life... Glad that it was finally over and done with.
My Master thesis - Another case which keeps haunting me from the start of the year till the end of it... Hand up my report, got "thrown" back with a lot of major changes. Crack my brain and try to modify. Hand up for submission to examiners, came back with lots of comments which means more write up and work... After some struggle, manage to get my report done up. Submit for approval. Finally got accepted but the date to submit my hard bind report clash with my ICT date which is like the most problematic period of my life. Thankfully got it all sorted out by paying more money. The last check, I was waiting for my conferment. Hope that this is the end of this chapter.
On work and career front, was not too smooth. Working on 12 hours shift, frequent flying overseas, allowance got rejected, just to name a few... Thankfully that is a thing of the past as I gotten a new job. Hope that things will work out smoothly from now onwards.
Health aspect was not too good. My plantar faciitis got worse because of long hours of standing and walking... Can hardly walk and run. But things took for a change since I change job. Now is more desk bound job, so can rest my ligaments. Hope that it can heal and recover...
It was really a busy and hectic year for me especially when the year drew to a close. I got to attend a lot of weddings but the most important 3 belongs to Ian and Aeris. I have to fly to Melbourne to attend the wedding, then travel up to Kluang for another and finally wrapping up with the last one at Novetel Hotel around Clarke Quay area. I was the best man and photographer throughout the whole event. And the "best" part is, my army ICT and Master thesis submission is all within the same period when I was suppose to fly to Melbourne. Come to think of it, this was my most stressful period of the year.
Looking back at the whole of 2009, there are some decisions that I made which is truly selfish and unpopular. For that, I humbly and sincerely ask for forgiveness for all the mistakes and wrongs that I have done. May the Divine guide me in this new year to avoid making such mistakes again.

Searching the Sun Tzu in Me
I have always been a great fan of Sun Tzu Art of War. I remembered how I used to read them and use it in my way of life. Guess over the times, I cannot find much use for it and forgotten most of it.
Was watching History channel the other night and saw a programme showing Sun Tzu Art of War, it really rekindle my thoughts to re-learn the Art of War and use it in my everyday life and to improve myself. Hope to find back the Sun Tzu in me and think wisely in all things that I do.

Re-organise and Re-orientate
It has been 2 months since I last blog.
Well, this blog is not dead yet, rest assured. Just that I have been very busy these days.
Busy with my new job, busy with my thesis submission (that one was a nightmare) and busy with life.
Somehow, I feel so lost in all the hustle and bustle that I lost focus of my life.
My life goals and directions...
Like a aimless guy, I don't know what lies ahead of me...
Is this the sign of Mid-Life Crisis? I hope not.
I am trying to re-organise myself, re-orientate my goals in life, re-strategize my plans and move ahead.
I need to do some soul-searching, to find back my old self and to find the inner self and excel...
Maybe it is a way the Divine is telling me that I am out-of-sync and time for me to cultivate oneself... Time to 修行

Farewell to ALL (from Francis Goh, Acergy)
The day is finally here. A day that I will look back and remember, my last day in Acergy.
Anyway, I woke up earlier than normal and took some photo bookmarks for my colleagues and went to work. I reached the office around 7:10am and I get to work immediately by distributing the bookmarks to all the people in Level 8 and Level 9 offices. I never knew that there are still so many people in Acergy as the bookmarks are hardly enough for all.
The next thing I did was to have breakfast with Peter, Florence and Angela and talk over coffee, but I guess this will be the last. After breakfast, I started to sort out all the papers on my desk, distributing to either Lai Huat or Anand.
After that, I went for lunch with Florence, Peter and John at Great Wall City. Really thanks for the lunch guys and gal.
At around 4:50pm, I went to find Eunice to hand over my office pass, then I walked back to my computer and start to send out my Farewell email to my colleagues in Acergy which I have been drafting for the last few days. I will include my email content later in this post.

As some of you may have heard, today (19th Aug 2009) will be my last day in Acergy.
I will just like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude, thanks and appreciation to all of you.
It has been a truly satisfying and memorable 1 year plus experience to be working with all in one way or another and I would never have realized how connected I would be to such a warm community of people. I hope that I was able to leave my footprint behind in the heart of those whom I worked closely with especially the Perth team where I have spent my last few months working very closely for the Pluto and Pyrenees Project and also not forgetting my HSEQ team in Singapore and all those in Singapore office.
Looking back, starting from LiuHua, to Van Gogh and Bluewater and finally Pyrenees mob, can’t believe that I have been through so much with both Singapore and Perth team. My only regret is that I cannot see the end of Pyrenees project and also to see through Pluto project.
Looking forward, Tomorrow I will wake up in my new life, full of yet-to-be realized opportunities, and empty of your company... I will be in a strange limbo.
In short, “BASICALLY” a very Big Thank-You to all for the guidance, support, friendship and also patience as well. Not forgetting to thank Acergy for giving me a chance to be part of this big family and dynamic team.
As the saying goes "A journey of thousand miles begins underneath one's feet". Every thing in life has a beginning, and indeed, a new chapter for me is about to unfold. Guess the same applies to all of you, for everyday, there maybe something new waiting for you to be explored. One part of my journey has ended, another will begin. Hope that in the near future our path may be able to cross again, so till then take care and keep in touch. Good luck & All the best!!!

A Piece of Me Just Died...
Engulfed by a sudden sense of lost and despair, like a part of me just died...
I also not sure what happen... Guess maybe that my colleagues in Perth office learned of the news of my resignation and I do feel sad that I am going to leave them. I mean, we are starting to get to know each other and working well together.
Maybe it is good to leave at high time. I always remembered the story of Rurouni Kenshin. As the story goes, at the peak of the Pre-Meji Restortation period, he quitted his job as an assassin and disappear.
Or maybe there is something else that is troubling me... Sigh...
I just wanted to be alone for a while I guess.

It is that time of the year again...
It has been 31 years since I took my first breathe. Yes, it is my birthday today, the only difference is... I am celebrating it overseas in Perth, my first birthday that I ever celebrate overseas. :) But yet... I feel so ordinary today. Nothing special. Nothing significant.
Woke up early this morning, had my breakfast, went to work early. It has been a really busy day. Break for lunch and continue to work. Thanks for all the well wishes through SMSes and calls. I really appreciate them.
Just got no mood to work today, left work at 4pm, went to the Nando's nearby Hay Street for dinner and walk around Hay and Murray Street Mall before I proceed back home and call it a day.
Just another day...

Story of the Ant - metaphoric in nature
Got this off from the Clubsnap forum. Just sounded so familiar, just like a deja vu.

A Fable..
Or
May Be Not...
Every day, a small ant arrives at work very early and starts work immediately.She produces a lot and she was happy. The Chief, a lion,was surprised to see that the ant was working without supervision. He thought if the ant can produce so much without supervision, wouldn’t she produce even more if she had a supervisor!
So he recruited a cockroach who had extensive experience as supervisor and who was famous for writing excellent reports. The cockroach’s first decision was to set up a clocking in attendance system. He also needed a secretary to help him write and type his reports and …... he recruited a spider, who managed the archives and monitored all phone calls.
The lion was delighted with the cockroach's reports and asked him to produce graphs to describe production rates and to analyse trends, so that he could use them for presentations at Board‘s meetings.
So the cockroach had to buy a new computer and a laser printer and ...... recruited a fly to manage the IT department. The ant, who had once been so productive and relaxed, hated this new plethora of paperwork and meetings which used up most of her time…! The lion came to the conclusion that it was high time to nominate a person in charge of the department where the ant worked. The position was given to the cicada, whose first decision was to buy a carpet and an ergonomic chair for his office.
The new person in charge, the cicada, also needed a computer and a personal assistant ,who he brought from his previous department, to help him prepare a Work and Budget Control Strategic Optimisation Plan …
The Department where the ant works is now a sad place, where nobody laughs anymore and everybody has become upset...It was at that time that the cicada convinced the boss , the lion, of the absolute necessity to start a climatic study of the environment .
Having reviewed the charges for running the ant’s department , the lion found out that the production was much less than before.
So he recruited the owl , a prestigious and renowned consultant to carry out an audit and suggest solutions. The owl spent three months in the department and came up with an enormous report , in several volumes, that concluded :
“ The department is overstaffed ...”
Guess who the lion fires first?
The ant , of course, because she “showed lack of motivation and had a negative attitude".

The characters in this fable are fictitious; any resemblance toreal people or facts within the Corporation is pure coincidence…

Mounts Bay Hotel Apartment
Here I am again reporting live from Perth City. I will be here for a month starting 15th July 2009 until 13th August 2009. I was originially placed in Travelodge Hotel but my project secretary decided to put me in an cozy apartment at Mounts Bay Village instead. It is really a nice and beautiful apartment. I really wish to get a house like this in future.

Cottesloe Beach
Got nothing on yesterday so decided to go to Fremantle for Fish and Chip brunch again. Bought the whole day train pass at AUD$8.40 instead of AUD$3.50 single trip because it will actually cost me AUD$7.00 for a to and fro trip.
Anyway, I got another agenda on my mind. I read again Cottesloe Beach on Lonely Planet and is really interested to check it out. I went to the beach and it is really breath-taking. Really beautiful but it is cloudy and windy. Only get a few shots before I left. Hope to be back here during the evening when the view is much nicer.

Claisebrook Cove
Was with Ian at Claisebrook Cove during his visit to Perth. We went to explore Claisebrook Cove one night before his departure trip back to Melbourne. Actually, I slip off halfway from work and went out with him. :P Sorry Bro, can't keep you accompany the whole day.
Anyway, we went to explore Claisebrook and the scenery is breath-taking but... I never bring my camera as I met Ian straight after work. I should have told him to bring my camera bag along. Well, this decision really comes back to haunt me later on.
I told myself that I will come back to Claisebrook to take some night shots. Since there is nothing on during the weekend, I decided to head out to Claisebrook to do my night shoot but alas... the weather have been really crappy as it is cloudy and rainy. Did not really get the shots I wanted. Hope to be able to go back again.

A Visit to Rottnest with an old friend, my buddy, my brother
Greetings from Perth again. Was assigned back here for another 3 weeks for work. Now is the winter season and it is rather cold.
I was very fortunate to have a surprise visit from an old friend, my buddy since Poly times, my brother Ian who came over from Melbourne to Perth for a visit during my stay here.
We planned for our activities to make the full use of the time when he was here over the weekend. First and foremost, we went to Femantle yesterday and have Kailis' Fish and Chips for lunch. Today, we went to Rottnest for a day tour.
Too bad that we did not know what to expect for this day trip, so very little planning was done for the moving around the island which was a mistake. There is no proper transport around Rottnest and to get around this big island, it will be better to cycle to get from places to places.
Even so, it never stop me from taking photos and sharing with all. Enjoy.

We planned for our activities to make the full use of the time when he was here over the weekend. First and foremost, we went to Femantle yesterday and have Kailis' Fish and Chips for lunch. Today, we went to Rottnest for a day tour.
Too bad that we did not know what to expect for this day trip, so very little planning was done for the moving around the island which was a mistake. There is no proper transport around Rottnest and to get around this big island, it will be better to cycle to get from places to places.
Even so, it never stop me from taking photos and sharing with all. Enjoy.

D200 with Goldie IR Filter
Dibyo (IR Photographer from Indonesia) was here in Singapore last weekend, so I send my D200 to him for modification to become an InfraRed camera. The InfraRed filter used for the modification is a special filter which is known as Goldie IR filter. I am guessing that the cut-off is 690nm. Took the camera out for a test run today but the weather is not ideal for IR. Just took a few test shots only. Enjoy.
