A New Blog to Check Out

My sister, Carly, just started her own decor blog. I have been trying to talk her into doing that for months. You should see her house, it is filled with so many creative things that she re-purposes or finds for cheap. Check it out when you get a chance, I know I will be.

Catching Up

I know it's been a few days since my last post. I must have hit some writers block. I guess after spending my days composing cover letters, the energy to write something creative for my blog just doesn't hit me. I'll have to do some catching up today.

Heb and I are back to life in Logan. It's been very cold and the long grey days stretch before us. It's hard not to have a bit of cabin fever. Luckily, we have planned a little getaway to California to visit my sister and go to Disneyland. I think Heber is looking forward to some sunshine and warm weather more than anything. Just a couple more weeks. It seems like most of our vacations lately have been to visit family. I can't complain though, when it's so fun to visit and when they live in beautiful locations.

I've been working away at my projects and loving having time to create things. I am even starting my own etsy site to start selling some of them, it will be opening soon.

For Human Rights Day we made our way to SLC to see an IMAX movie. I love IMAX's. I only wish that they would make another Everest one. There is something so fascinating to me about climbing that mountain (not that you'll ever see me do it).

Did any of you watch Miss America on Saturday? I hate to admit that I still love watching, thinking about, well, anything pageant related. I was excited for the person who won, what an opportunity.

Well, I think that about wraps up the randomness in the Green House. I promise that there will be more coherent and exciting posts to come soon.

Adventures in Unemployment

I am out looking for work, again. Some say it's the bad economy, this time I'm blaming it on bad luck, well and the bad economy.

To be honest, I can't say that I am unhappy being out of work this time. Maybe I am a happier and healthier me or perhaps after a year, I was just ready for a change. The problem with it all is that I'm not sure what I really want to be doing and where to end up. I guess I am not looking for another layover job that I do because I have to but because it is something that I love. Is that desire even realistic? And, how do you find that? Have you experienced this?

I read a talk recently by Elder Wirthlin called "Come What May and Love It." These words have become a sort of motto during this time and I am looking for ways to love it.

What I'm loving about unemployment, at least right now:

Learning how to navigate unemployment benefits: I was on the phone for two hours yesterday for them only to tell me everything was fine, I swear the computer did not say it was fine. I'm learning to love this one.

Having time to work on my projects: I've pulled out all the projects that need finishing, the quilt, my wedding book (yes, I've been married for three years)

Spending time with friends and family: They have been so supportive and helpful.

What are you loving about your hard times, and I know you are all having them. How did you find your path?

A Change

I have always been one to create resolutions and goals for the new year. Every year, I take a pen in hand and think about what I who I want to be at the end of the year. I'm not sure that I always complete these resolutions, but I think it is healthy to think about improvement.

On New Years Day in the morning, I received the phone call that my Grandpa had passed away. He has been sick for a long time but the loss was felt deeply among the family. On that day, Heber and I went back home to be with my family. I am so lucky to be a part of a close and supportive family, not just in times of loss but at all times.

That said, I didn't take the time on New Years Day to set out my resolutions. I think that something inside of me knew that more change would be happening, that things would happen that I couldn't prepare for. The change happened today and although now I feel some sorrow, I have felt the Spirit preparing me for this moment, helping me to deal with the unknowable. More than anything, I know that there is a plan for us, that we are children of a Heavenly Father who knows us and knows exactly what we need.

Perhaps I will sit down and set out some resolutions today, to be a better friend, to always seek for joy, and to find a new job.

An Austin Affair

I think I might be obsessed with Pride and Prejudice.

For the first time ever, I picked up Pride and Prejudice to read. I know it's the book that everyone's read but for some reason, I hadn't read it. Right before Christmas I started reading and I love it.

I was up late last night sucked into the witty prose and interesting story line. It's no wonder there are so many movies are based on this story. I am right to the part when Jane and Bingley have been engaged and Elizabeth is rethinking her original judgment of Darcy. I know exactly what's going to happen but I can't put it down. Will Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy ever admit their love? Will they live happily ever after? I'll have to get back to you.
