Thanksgiving

We had a nice Thanksgiving weekend. We headed to Eureka, to my Grandparents for Thursday. Grandma didn't make the traditional Turkey dinner since she figured we were having that on Friday, so we had roast, meatloaf, potatoes, etc. It was wonderful! It was a nice change. We had a good time visiting with them and they always enjoy spending time with their great grand daughter.

Friday, we headed to Leola, to the Jakobers. That is LouAnns sisters house. We had the traditional Turkey dinner and it was wonderful! We stuffed ourselves silly! We spent the evening there playing cards and then headed for home on Saturday.

It was nice to come home considering all three of us have been sick. Some "bug" is floating around our house and both Paul and Seneca have been fighting it for a month now. On Friday, I started feeling the "bug" and have been down since then. Hopefully it won't drag on quite as long as theirs has.

This week we are back to the normal busy week. The weather has gotten considerably cold and they are talking about freezing rain tonight! Not looking forward to that. If we remember last year on this day, we weren't at work due to a blizzard....so things could be worse.

The New "Hertel" wing at St. Marys Hospital

This week is only half over and what a week it has been.....well, last week, we had Seneca in the hospital and early Monday morning (1:30 am) Paul woke me up and was in severe pain. I called a friend to come stay with Seneca and took him to the ER. They ended up admitting him to the hospital with kidney stones. They released him yesterday evening after it passed. Everyone keeps telling me that these things happen in threes but I am not going to take my turn. Paul had some of the same nurses Seneca had and when Seneca and I came to visit, they all remembered Seneca and she just felt at home there. I decided that after these last few weeks, they need to dedicate a wing at the hospital in our names!

Hospital Halloween

It has been a crazy week in the Hertel household.......Monday Seneca wound up in the hospital due to a bite from our cat. Sunday morning she was bit by Gracie and by Monday morning her hand was very swollen and red so I took her to the clinic Monday afternoon. As soon as the Dr. saw it, she admitted her to the hospital to start IV antibiotics. Well, needless to say, we were in the hospital until Wednesday noon. So Seneca spent Halloween in the hospital. She had a good time though. The nurses got permission from her Dr. for her to go Trick or Treating at the nursing home which is connected to the hospital so a nurse walked us halfway down through the tunnel which leads to the nursing home so we wouldn't have to go outside and then a maintance worker lead us the rest of the way and also stayed with us while we trick or treated and led us back to her room. She went as her regular planned costume "A ladybug" but didn't fully do the black clothes since we couldn't get them around her IV so we just put her wings and antennae on and loaded up on the candy! This is a photo of one of her friends from Daycare, Kate, who came to visit her. Kate was quite concerned about Seneca and Seneca very much appreciated her visit!
