Hair cut, anyone?

Ian and I have hair growing powers. Our kids will be monstrous cousin itt looking children because I'm sure our powers combined will be insane. This is pretty awesome for me. I can't stand my hair to stay the same for very long-- and it doesn't. All by its self. But Ian? Especially with the strict "why is your hair covering the top of your ears!" rule at good ol' BYU-Idaho, it's somewhat annoying. And expensive. We dappled with the idea of me cutting it once, but we both just laughed and shook our heads at the thought. It wouldn't be a problem if he let me use electric clippers-- but he can't stand the way his hair looks with those things, and always asks the hairdresser to refrain from using them. So... I'd have to use real scissors. Which sounded dangerous and humiliating. But then my visiting teaching companion came over with her husband to give us these amazing bran muffins, and told me she had just cut her spouse's hair with scissors. And yeah, she has a little room to make mistakes considering this guys hair is so curly you can't really tell much of a difference with it all stuck to his head like that, but it inspired us. I even got excited for some reason. Of course, I planned on cutting the hair just so that there would be room for improvement and such. So... about three weeks later after saying "You should cut my hair" and "I need to cut your hair" I did it.

The before mangy shots

The after trying-to-look afraid shots

I can't believe how much I cut off! That first bit was really freaky. I really had no idea what I was doing. But once I got into it, it was actually fun, and I knew how I wanted it to look and how to go about it. Who knew? I even cut the cut the sides and the back shorter than the top. Eh? Eh? Yeah. I'm feeling pretty good.

And the best part? Ian really likes it. Luckily I can really tell when he's telling the truth. He even said it was better than a lot of the times he'd had it done professionally. And sure I know if a professional took a look she'd be embarrassed for me, but to the untrained eye it looks fabulous. He's even been given compliments. And I think it's pretty hot, so...

Hooray! No more spending $15-$20 every two months on haircuts!
I think I'll take a bow.
You thought this was going to be horror story, di'ncha?
Yeah, well so did I.

New Creature

www.godsgeography.com

"For mere improvement is not redemption, though redemption always improves people even here and now and will, in the end, improve them to a degree we cannot yet imagine. ... It is not like teaching a horse to jump better and better but like turning a horse into a winged creature. Of course, once it has got its wings, it will soar over fences which could never have been jumped and thus beat the natural horse at its own game. But there may be a period, while the wings are just beginning to grow, when it cannot do so: and at that stage the lumps on the shoulders--no one could tell my looking at them that they are going to be wings--may even give it an awkward appearance."

Serendipity

Okay, so I'm playing this song-- and while I'll still give credit to you Lizzie dearest, Ian walks in and says, "Oh, by the way-- I heard that song a couple months ago and thought of you." Except-- he forgot to show me. And then-- he whips out this video on YouTube...

And it's even better. Oh my goodness I love my husband. And here I was thinkin' he'd think it was cheesy 'er somethin, and he likes it. On his own. And thought of me. Yeah

It Fits

My sister Liz is always searching for good songs for my mothers wedding videos. One of which is called "Dream" by Priscilla Ahn. As soon as Mom heard it, she saw the footage of Ian and I around the temple. I hadn't really listened to it until yesterday on my way to work. It fits me. It fits how beautiful my life as been, is, and will be. Especially now that Ian is a part of it. I'd love to share it with you. Sometimes I'm just a big ball of cheese.

Wrong Turn

It's Summer. And I'm the happiest I've ever been.

Took a wrong turn to find an alternate route on the way home from work yesterday. I found myself on windy roads surrounded by beautiful Idaho fields and hills. Pulled over, and stood among weeds that were taller than me. My Aunt Julie once said on the deck of a Mount Pleasant home "Isn't it great to remember that silence has a sound?" I recalled these words as I felt the silence around me. It was soon added by the sound of crickets, wind and bees. And so I stood and ate the apple I'd put in my bag earlier that day.

Beautiful World. Beautiful life.
