Ode to Jason

So I had to give you a hard time in the last two posts about being a time and weather optimist, but I really want to let you that that I'm so glad that you drag us out on these excursions. I don't think I'd ever go out and do much of anything more than 10 minutes away from home if it wasn't for you. Thus my trip up to Idaho for my fling date with you being the first time I had ever really traveled anywhere without my family. I mean, really, the trip up to the Rexburg splash park was a stretch for me. The kids are lucky to have such a great dad with such a motivation to get out and go. I'm sure there are so many more fun things to come. So here's a thank you for all of the awesome memories and another thank you in advance for all the fantastic adventures to come.

Grand Teton National Park

Ok, ok, just one more summer post. I had to touch on this one.

So we took a back road up to where we had intended on going into Yellowstone again, but decided, spur of the moment, to head through Grand Teton National Park. I'm slowly getting better at this fly by the seat of my pants stuff.

This was a lake along the back (dirt) road. Those are all lily pads across the lake. It was pretty cool.

On the way through the park, we decided to stop and hike at Jenny Lake to Hidden Falls.

Remembering an exchange I had with a neighbor of mine over the fourth of July who told me how they got stuck up in the Tetons on a hike with summer clothes in a horrendous and cold rain storm, I suggested we take jackets with us. You know, tie them around our waists and stuff. Well, the sun was shining and needless to say my idea was quickly shot down by the other adult in our party (I'm not naming any names). It was a beautiful hike. The kids really enjoyed themselves as well. That is, until we got caught in a lightning/rain/hail storm not too far from reaching the falls. I was never more authorized to use the "I told you so" phrase than at that moment. It turned out fine. The falls were magnificent.

And we only had to endure whining, cold, wet kids for a little while. Needless to say, we forked out the cash to take the boat back across the lake instead of hiking back around it. More good times. :)

*I just had to take a picture of this sign. It speaks for itself.

Our Excersion Through Bear Tooth Pass

More summer posts that I hadn't quite gotten to until now...

We drove up through Yellowstone and checked out Mammoth Hot Springs. Evidently, it used to be a lot more exciting and active, but it was cool anyway.

This was the first meadow of note that we came to while climbing elevation. Very picturesque. I couldn't help but wonder how all of those boulders ended up there. Hmmmmm.

This was a gorgeous high mountain lake. Unfortunately, when we decided to get of the car to see it closer, we were immediately swarmed by mosquitoes by the thousands. It was crazy! From there on out we enjoyed the lakes from the car.

This is just one of the amazing views from the other side of the pass. Just breathtaking. My camera just can't do it justice.

We stopped at a look-out point and these chipmunks were practically domesticated from having so many tourists stop through. No surprise really that my kids started begging me to take one home for a pet. Nice try, but no.

My personal trip planner named Jason, grossly underestimated the amount of time it would take us to accomplish our adventure, so we ended up bunking down in a hotel somewhere in Montana. It was a pleasant stay even though we didn't have any of our overnight necessities with us. The kids didn't seem to mind. Honestly, I thought it was pretty fun and adventurous...woohoo. Hey, that's a HUGE deal for someone like me who has to have everything planned out ahead of time before I go anywhere or do anything, esp. with kids in tow. Good times.

Kate's Cheer Camp

So I couldn't move on from summer posts without posting this one. Jason's mom took Kate and her cousin Emma for a week while they participated in a cheer camp that the Aberdeen High School cheerleaders put on every year. She had a fabulous time and was totally spoiled!

Jason's little sister and Kate's aunt Breanna was there, too. Kate is convinced that she is the best thing since sliced bread. Thanks Breanna for being so good to the littler girls.

Andrew had to get in on some of the action too.

They got to do their cheer and dance at the first home football game. My little performer and drama queen was in high heaven. We'll shout out a T-H-A-N-K-S to Grandma Duffin for the great time!
